Moment of Silence Chief Walker took a few moments to honor Bob Reeves who passed away on December 27, 2015. Bob represented OFDDA at Council meeting and was finishing up his sixth year as a GFSPC board member. Chief Walker indicated that Bob would have been the one facilitating the meeting as the vice-chair of the council. Welcome/Introductions Chief Walker welcomed Steven Patterson, a new board member representing property & casualty insurance providers. Introductions were made over the phone and roundtable. Minutes Minutes from the October 27th meeting were reviewed. Chief Hallman motioned to accept the minutes as presented. Mariana seconded the motion and the minutes were approved as submitted.
Appreciation Award
Chief Walker called Chief Keller to the front of the room to present him with an appreciation award for his service and commitment to the Governor’s Fire Service Policy Council. Chief Walker highlighted some of Chief Keller’s career and life achievements and thanked him for bringing a high level and cohesive presence to the group, both as a member and Chair.
Joint Fire Service Legislative Committee – Nicole Palmateer
Nicole stated the OFCA is working on the GEMT initiative and is actively engaged in moving through legislation. This is a federal initiative which allows reimbursement rate between the difference in what is currently compensated between Medicaid transport vs. the actual cost of transport up to 65%. Nicole stated they are working very hard on this initiative and appreciates all the support from fire service and fire service associations.
1 Nicole also stated the protected lands bill will not moving forward, but stated the conversations will continue on how to provide protection to these areas.
OLD BUSINESS
Firefighter Injury Statistics Task Force – Chief John Nohr Chief Nohr stated the Firefighter Injury Statistics Task Force continues to move forward. On the Portland side, there was a meeting in November with department heads as well as Shannon Widman and Jennifer Taylor from Drexel University. The contract with the City of Portland is currently sitting with the city attorney and bureau directors. On the state of Oregon side, there was a meeting on December 8, 2015 presented by Shannon Widman to OHA. The meeting went well and covered data and information sharing. The group will continue to move forward and work through processes.
