We Are Here Today to Pay Honor to and Celebrate the 23 Year and One Month Career Of

We are here today to pay honor and celebrate the dedicated, selfless service by George Alvin Boyce to the citizens of Mesquite, Texas; and

WHEREAS, George served the citizens of Mesquite in various offices – first as a Councilmember from 1961-1965, as Mayor from 1965-1973 and then as Municipal Court Judge from 1981-1988. He has worked for the City of Mesquite for 21 years; and

WHEREAS, George has served as President of the North Central Council of Governments, President of the Mayor’s and Councilman Association of the Texas Municipal League and President of Dallas County Municipal League. George won the Liberty Bell Award in 1970-71 for being the most outstanding citizen in Mesquite; and

WHEREAS, George has served as a member of the Civitan Club, the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. He is currently a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge, the Hella Temple Shrine and Scottish Rite. He is a 50-year member of all three associations; and

WHEREAS, George is a member of the Eastridge Park Christian Church, where he participates in the Discovery Sunday School Class. He served the church as Chairman of the Board in 1994; and

WHEREAS, on behalf of the entire City Council, I want to express my sincere appreciation to George for his exceptional service to the City of Mesquite and wish him much happiness and success as he begins this new chapter in his life.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Anderson, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim Sunday, July 30, 2006, as: “GEORGE ALVIN BOYCE DAY” in the City of Mesquite, and urge all citizens and City employees to join me in congratulating George for his outstanding career with the City of Mesquite and wishing him many continued years of happiness and good health.
