1St Quarter LISA After School Classes 2010

3 rd Quarter BRMS LISA AAA (After-School Arts Academy)

Intro to Acting Instructor: Rob Mohler Room: Auditorium Class Cap: 20 Acting 101 will be an opportunity for students to explore some of the fundamentals of stage acting. We will use a variety of exercises and theater games to developing students acting skills. The activities will demonstrate and develop stage and body movement, vocal dynamics, and stage presence through the use of improvisation. The class will culminate in a live performance experience where we will go through an audition process, learning of basic stage directions, memorization of role, and the final performance before family and friends. The class is intended to be a structured but fun, safe exploration of performing on the stage. This class is intended for primarily sixth graders and those with limited time on the stage. Creative Space: Let’s Draw! Instructor: Heather Hanks Room: Art Classroom 121 Class Cap: 20 Would you like to have the time, space and materials to explore new methods of drawing?! Pairing student choice with creativity, this class will provide the opportunity for students to explore a variety of techniques and mediums, from ebony pencil to charcoal. Students will have the freedom to choose the content of their artwork, and will collaborate with the instructor to explore and develop new techniques and ideas. Beading For Beginners and Beyond Instructors: Paige Keck (Guest Artist) Room: Art Classroom 115 Class Cap: 20 Make stunning, colorful, and unique artwork out of seed beads. Starting with the basics, we begin with stringing and work our way up to projects like daisy chains, dream-catchers, Huichol stitch, loomwork, and applique. A variety of beads, string, findings, and specialized needles will help you make projects inspired from cultures around the world. You will make your own loom and design your own pieces with step-by-step instructions from Ms. Paige.

Spring Musical Prep: Lion King *Must apply with Mrs. McCann* Instructor: Rachel McCann & Kaitlin Newlin Room: 204 Class Cap: 20 Come and contribute your creativity to making the spring musical, "The Lion King" the best show Bill Reed has ever produced! We're looking for creative minds who are interested in working behind the scenes creating imaginative props, jaw- dropping costumes, brilliant lighting design, realistic make-up design, and incredible sets to bring the characters on stage to life! This class has limited space and you must get permission from Mrs. McCann to join! So sign up now! Fiction Workshop Instructor: Debbie Vance (Guest Artist) Room: 224 Class Cap: 20 *Tuesday/Thursday ONLY In this workshop, we’ll explore the craft of writing fiction by actually writing. Sure, we’ll learn how to create scenes and build characters, and we’ll study examples by master storytellers, but the best way to learn how to write a story is to write one (and another, and another). In this workshop, you will enter worlds of your own creation—based on real life or totally fantastical—and write stories that make your readers feel. This is your chance to bring your wildest daydreams (or nightmares) to life. Writing is always messy, and can be dangerous. Come at your own risk. Sign Expression Workshop Instructor: Tina Carey, Dana Croteau, Carrie Starkson Room: FACS Classroom 129 Class Cap: 20 *Wednesday ONLY An adventure in the visual arts awaits you! We present to you the art of American Sign Language through story telling, signing of songs, enrichment games and basic communication techniques and skills. In this workshop, your creativity will be awakened in an exciting new way. Three school district Sign Language Interpreters will guide you through your sign language experience. Be prepared to explore the arts through sign language in this Wednesday only workshop! Because of the shortened format of this workshop, your presence is expected every Wednesday.
