Submission Product Manager/Outreach Ambassador

Computercraft seeks a biologist with a background in sequence data analysis to work with scientists around the United States to improve submission systems to the National Center for Biotechnology Information's (NCBI) data archives, SRA, GenBank, GEO and dbSNP.

Responsibilities will include collecting use cases for data submissions from both large and small scale users, integrating those use cases into proposed action plans, and presenting them to people at the appropriate level in the NCBI organization, focusing on the development of web and command-line based tools for the submission of sequence data to the various archives. The individual will also be responsible for advertising and explaining these tools to professionals and students in relevant fields.

Job Responsibilities:  Defines features and their priority  Defines the strategy to implement those features, in collaboration with project owners and project managers  Works closely with project managers to define tactics, product backlog, and sprints  Works with NCBI help desk personnel to generate documentation and FAQs  Reaches out to the user community to publicize and solicit input on product features  Received and anaylzes user comments and feedback  Defines (and, ultimately, achieves) success and conversion metrics and goals

Requirements:  Advanced degree (MS/Ph.D.) and significant submission experience required  Ability to work with a team in a production environment and communicate well with NCBI biologists and programmers as well as external scientists  Ability to be a strong user advocate for submissions  Specific experience submitting data to NCBI resources  Strong professional network/contacts within the scientific data submission community

Desirable Skills (understood that it is unlikely any applicant will have all, but some combination of scientific and technical attributes would be ideal):

Scientific  Genomics  DNA sequence generation and analysis  Transcriptomics Technical  Hands-on product management experience within a professional web or application development organization  Solid understanding of the technical software development process  Specific experience with web analytics, accessibility, usability testing, and software QA/Testing  Ability to balance multiple goals and deadlines under resource contraints a key success factor  Must incorporate and resolve sometimes-conflicting direction from multiple management, user, and technical stakeholders  Excellent project management, consensus-building, and communication skills
