It expresses more complex functions such as speaking, reading, and writing in the past tense. Students will engage in longer communicative exchanges and read a variety of texts and stories. Course Content Students should have received a C or better in French 1. WICOR Strategies Write simple sentences and paragraphs using French. Inquire about grammatical functions, language tendencies and cultural comparisons. Collaborate with classmates on speaking activities, authentic assessments and projects. Organize their notes, assignments and activities in a French INB. Read short passages and paragraphs in the target language. Grading Scale A 100-89.5 B 89.4-79.5 C 79.4-69.5 D No Ds in French! Incompletes: Students may receive an incomplete grade from a teacher for various reasons. If an incomplete is given students must finalize their grade by completing any missing or make-up work within 2 weeks of the next semester starting. At this point any incomplete grade will become F.

There will be No Ds given in French class. It is important that we master material before moving on, since in a foreign language we are continually building upon our skills. If you fall in the D range your semester grade will be an “N” (no grade) or “I” (incomplete). In order to raise your grade to a C or higher, you have three weeks to master the standards and complete the work necessary. At the end of the three weeks, if you have yet to raise your grade, these assignments will become a zero, resulting in an F. Late Work. I ALWAYS accept late work! Students can turn in late work for reduced points at all times. Make-up Work and Exams. It is the student’s responsibility to check the classroom INB or Google Classroom to see what they have missed. Make-up work from unexcused absences can be turned in for reduced credit depending on time lapsed. Test Retake Policy. Test corrections and retakes are available.

Classroom Expectations Behavior ● Arrive to class on time. You should be in your assigned place ready to work when Expectations the tardy bell rings. They should include your interactive notebook, pencil or pen, and assignment, when applicable. ● Do not bring food or beverages to class. If you have a special health issue that requires you to eat or drink during class, or to leave class, please make me aware of it. ● Cheating and plagiarism (including Google Translate) will not be tolerated. ● Always be courteous and respectful! Swearing, arguing, making fun of others and discourteous language and behaviors will not be tolerated. Cell Phones The district’s policy of “Time and Place” will be strictly enforced. We have few materials for and Technology the size of our classes, so cellphones/tablets may be used for looking up words, aiding in assignments, Kahoot, etc. Texting, social media usage, etc. will result in phone confiscation. Misuse of technology will result in the following consequences: ● First offense. Phone taken to office for pick up at end of day. ● Second offense. Phone taken to office for parent pick up. ● Third offense. Parent pick up and meeting with administration ● Additional consequences up to and including suspension. Attendance Students are encouraged to have over 90% attendance. Students who miss class are less and Tardies likely to be successful in school. ALL absences need to be excused by parent/guardian. ● Unexcused period absences are considered “skipping” and may result in a referral. Allowing make-up work for unexcused absences is up to teacher discretion. A student who is more than 10 minutes late is considered unexcused absent. ● For excused period absences, students have the number of days missed to make-up missing work. Exceptions to this are based on teacher make-up work policy. ● Tardies. Students who arrive to a class after the late bell rings must get a pass from the attendance office before being admitted to class. A period tardy results in lunch detention. Academic Honesty Students are expected to put forth their best efforts on tests and assignments, and not deliberately underperform. Students are expected to demonstrate respect toward their instructors and peers by encouraging and facilitating learning. Engaging in various forms of cheating or academic dishonesty does not permit students to realize the full extent of the educational experience or their full academic potential. Students are encouraged to converse with others and assist other students, except when doing so is inconsistent with testing or assignment instructions.

Prohibited events include, but are not limited to, using or sharing prohibited study aids or other written materials on tests or assignments. Academic dishonesty also includes sharing, collaborating, or communicating with others on tests or assignments, before or during tests or assignments, in violation of directions by the class instructor. Academic dishonesty may also include knowingly sharing false information or knowingly misleading another to reach a false answer or conclusion.

Students who engage in academic dishonesty must either complete the invalidated summative assessment or an alternative assessment chosen by staff. Discipline may include detention; prohibiting the student from participating in school-sponsored activities or events; denial or revocation of school-conferred titles, distinctions, honors, or privileges; or suspension or expulsion.
