In 2016 OTTPA had 52 new rookies compete in 11 out of the 14 classes offered. To be eligible for the OTTPA Rookie of the Year you must not have hooked over 3 times in any previous year with OTTPA and must have hooked at least 4 times in 2016. This year we had some real battles among rookies in the same class. This is a list of the top 4 nominees for this award.
LLP – Justin Grimes, Just Another Buck, Osborn, MO (27 hooks – 1002 points – 3 rd place) This was the tractor to beat all year as Justin and Just Another Buck took 5 wins and 5 runner-up spots for 12 top 3 finishes and ended the season in 1st place by over 40 points. In the contender round he came out with over a 10 point lead. In the first hook of the championship round he had his worst hook of the year and the rest of the hooks were rained out and he finished 3rd in points.
D4x4 – Skyler Leeper, Legal Limits, California, MO (16 hooks – 677 points – 1 st place) This was a tough battle with Dylan Lempka and the Lights Out truck. Skyler took 9 wins and ended the season with a 6 point lead. At the end of the championship round they were tied with Skyler winning the tie breaker and taking a 2 point lead into championship round. In the first hook in the championship Skyler got 1st and Dylan got 2nd to win the championship by 3 points as the other hooks got rained out.
LLP – Loren Paulsen, Deere Commander, Coleridge, NE (27 hooks – 1006 points – 1st place) In a highly competitive class Loren and Deere Commander took 3 wins and 6 top 3 finishes and ended the season in 4 th place.
