CULL COWS AND OTMS – 151 averaged 145.48p or £970.59p A very decent entry of OTMS on offer this week and again a mixture of fed cows of all breeds selling well and cold and hungry cows harder work.

Without doubt cow numbers are coming onto the market at a fair pace as many producers ready themselves for the Winter and more worryingly producers getting out of sucklers full-stop.

Prices as the seasonal glut subsides will without doubt pick up and we urge you to feed cows or market them at our Saturday Sales as Feeders.

OTM clean cattle today were in the main colder grass fed cattle.

Steers - 100 averaged 195.13p The lowest average recorded for over a year today, but by no means a bad trade, however plenty of black and whites and some Continental without a spark of meat on them.

Please do not throw money away selling cattle with no meat, I know there are risks with TB testing cattle, however some producers today would have thrown over £1000 away on a run of lean cattle which were terrific stores and totally useless as meat cattle – Surely at those rates the risk is worth taking??

Properly finished cattle were very well sort after and again were topped by Ian Wildgoose who sold Limousins to 251.5p - £1337.98. Willy and Michael Seels sold Blues to 246.5p - £1570.21. Brian Smith, Warwick sold Blues to 238.5p - £1180.58, Mr A Clifton sold Limousins to 234.5p - £1296.79.

Messrs S & E Dow sold Charolais to £1634.11.

Today E graded steers 235p plus with U+’s 226-230p and –U grades 220-225p with R grades 212-218p, O+’s 202-210p.
