Lesson Use doll as man who can’t walk. He lies on his blanket all day. His elbows get sore. He can’t go anywhere by himself. What would that be like. Jesus is coming to town. People have heard he makes sick people well. His friends carry him on a blanket to see Jesus. When they get to the house there are so many people squeezed inside they can’t get inside to see Jesus. Someone has an idea. They carry the man onto the roof. Have children lie down and look at ceiling. Imagine what it would be like in the roof. Scratching and bits of ceiling falling down Then a hole – it gets bigger and faces look down. Everyone moves back and the man is right by Jesus! Jesus said, “Stand up pick up your bed and walk!” He was so excited he thanked Jesus, he thanked God and he told every how Jesus had made him walk. He told everyone to go and see Jesus!

Down Through The Roof book or Flashcards (web) New Testament If you have enough adults carry a child around on a blanket and act out the story. An old single fitted sheet with hole cut in middle. Tie to legs of inverted table or chair legs. Cover with pieces of cardboard. Show how the tiles come off. Talk about being a friend. And how badly he wanted to see Jesus.
