Western Dakota Gem & Mineral Society 2007-2008 Officers And Chairpersons

THE AMMONITE Newsletter of the Western Dakota Gem & Mineral Society –August 2011

FROM THE PRESIDENT, by Ellen Tilley

Hello everyone. It is Picnic Time and we usually do not have business to take care of. This time will be an exception. The committee of five plus one will present a report of our findings, including a comparison of the 2010 and 2011 shows at the two different venues, warts and all. We ruled out Keystone, Hill City, and Custer as being too far for most of us, gas prices for three round-trips, extra time, prices of motels during tourist season. The vote will be by ballot for the venue and date. ALL MEMBERS are encouraged to be present. The business session will be brief. See you at the OLD STORYBOOK ISLAND PICNIC shelter 12 August, 6 PM.

Secretaries Notes, July 2011

 Meeting called to order at 7:30pm  Program presented by Sylvia Cox on Jewelry Making - She gave a wonderful talk on some of the different kinds of jewelry making and how everyone should try their hand at some of form of it. She is very passionate about it and even brought some fliers from a local artist in town. (The info will be in the ammonite after the notes.) He would like to set up some classes so if you are interested please contact him.  Linda S. and Jan B. motioned and okayed notes from June  Earl and Deb motioned and Okayed Treasures report as given by Rita for June and July.  Black Hills Multiple Use Coalition- Nothing new to report  Rocky Mountain Federation- Nothing new to report  ALA- Nothing new to report  Old news- Airport Bench- We have not heard anything from officials at the airport or they Mayor.  Feedback from the Vendors is mixed. We received lots of wonderful suggestions from some of our vendors and we appreciate that. We are looking at all comments and suggestions and will be learning a lot from them. We are going to be looking at all of your suggestions also so if you have any suggestions feel free to send them to Ellen, you do not have to put your name on it if you wish.  New Business- Next Year’s Show we were going to not talk about this so soon but we realized that we needed to set plans into action so we could hold a spot for next year’s show. Therefore a committee was formed to go out and explore all of the different places we could hold a show and then we could decide after being more informed. The committee consists of Cliff Nelson, Marsha Taylor, Cal Walsh, Dale Joebgen and Jan Baumiester. This group will go out and explore all of the different Halls, Centers, Gyms or buildings big enough to hold or show including the places we have already had our shows in before, with convenience and lighting and all the things we would like to have and compile a list to bring to the picnic next month. Dates we are looking at for next year is 6-8,9,10-2012/ 6-22,23,24-2012/ 6-29, 30,7-1, 2012. We are trying to stay away from Father’s Day but thinking about our weather. We will have to see how availability is for that time next year.  A special Meeting of the members or at least the board may need to be called.
