Anorexia Signs & Symptoms:  Starvation  Calorie counting  Low body weight  Absence of > 3  Fear of becoming consecutive menstrual overweight, even though cycles underweight  Low self-esteem  Disturbed body image  Depression  Obsessive exercise  Irritability  Obsession with food  Withdrawal Anorexia Facts:

 1% of female adolescents have anorexia (http://www.anred.com/stats.html)

 It typically develops in early to mid-adolescents   One-third of anorexics subsequently develop Bulimia (http://www.edreferral.com/anorexia_nervosa.htm)

Anorexia Consequences:

 Anemia  Osteoporosis  Cardiovascular  Kidney dysfunction problems  Amenorrhea  Fainting and Weakness  Hair Loss Bulimia

Bulimia Signs & Symptoms:  Discrete periods of at least 2 times a week overeating followed by for 3 months compensation to avoid weight gain  Compensatory  Sense of a lack of control Behaviors Including: over the eating  Self-induced vomiting  Binge eat & engage in  Misuse of laxatives  Severe caloric restriction compensatory behavior  Diuretics  Excessive exercising Bulimia Facts:

 About 4% college-aged women have bulimia (http://www.anred.com/stats.html)  Bulimics are usually of average or above average weight  There is full recognition of the behavior as abnormal

Bulimia Consequences:

 Esophagus tears  Tooth Decay  Stomach rupture  Constipation  Life-threatening heart  Ulcers rhythm irregularities Celebrities who suffered from Eating Disorders:
