Anorexia Signs & Symptoms: Starvation Calorie counting Low body weight Absence of > 3 Fear of becoming consecutive menstrual overweight, even though cycles underweight Low self-esteem Disturbed body image Depression Obsessive exercise Irritability Obsession with food Withdrawal Anorexia Facts:

1% of female adolescents have anorexia (http://www.anred.com/stats.html)
It typically develops in early to mid-adolescents One-third of anorexics subsequently develop Bulimia (http://www.edreferral.com/anorexia_nervosa.htm)
Anorexia Consequences:
Anemia Osteoporosis Cardiovascular Kidney dysfunction problems Amenorrhea Fainting and Weakness Hair Loss Bulimia
Bulimia Signs & Symptoms: Discrete periods of at least 2 times a week overeating followed by for 3 months compensation to avoid weight gain Compensatory Sense of a lack of control Behaviors Including: over the eating Self-induced vomiting Binge eat & engage in Misuse of laxatives Severe caloric restriction compensatory behavior Diuretics Excessive exercising Bulimia Facts:
About 4% college-aged women have bulimia (http://www.anred.com/stats.html) Bulimics are usually of average or above average weight There is full recognition of the behavior as abnormal
