FACT FILE Permit to place a Bulk Rubbish Container on a Road

OVERVIEW

This fact file covers the placement of Bulk Rubbish Containers (skip bins) on road. A road is defined in Mornington Peninsula Shires General Purposes Local Law and includes a nature strip.

WHAT REGULATIONS APPLY?

The Mornington Peninsula Shire’s General Purposes Local Law 2012 section 52 states that a person must not place a Bulk Rubbish Container on a road without a permit

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING A PERMIT?

The company supplying the Bulk Rubbish Container is responsible for obtaining the permit to place it on a road.

HOW DO I GET A PERMIT?

The company providing the Bulk Rubbish Container must apply to the Mornington Peninsula Shire to be an accredited supplier. Once the application is approved and an annual fee of $250 paid, the supplier is then deemed to have a permit to place the Containers on a road.

DO I HAVE TO ADVISE THE SHIRE EACH TIME I PLACE A CONTAINER ON A ROAD?

Yes. While the company that supplies the Bulk Rubbish Container does not have to apply for a permit for each container, as part of the annual permit conditions, they must advise the Shire by email or fax when a container is placed on a road.
