ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES OCTOBER 13, 2011

The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on October 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana. The invocation was led by Mrs. Rogers. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Swilley.

ROLL CALL: Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Dykes and Mr. Dayton. 1 Absent (Mr. Kelley)

MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 8, 2011 Mr. Swilley moved to approve the minutes from the September 8, 2011 meeting. Mr. Dykes seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: YEAS 0 NAYS ABSENT

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Mr. Drake reported that Zachary High School will have its Homecoming Parade at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, October 14, 2011. Move in day for Foundation Hall will be on Monday, October 17, 2011. Ribbon Cutting for Foundation Hall will be on October 26, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. We will have a Community Celebration on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Zachary High School Stadium. The Zachary Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet will be on October 20, 2011. Karin Lawless, Supervisor of Academic Accountability, told the board that the district was the state’s top-ranked school system for seven years in a row. The performance score of 121.3 puts it above the state mandated score of 120 that all schools are expected to attain by 2014. Mrs. Lawless told the board that Northwestern Elementary, Zachary Elementary, Copper Mill Elementary and Zachary High School received an A for performance rankings. Northwestern Middle School received a performance ranking of a B, three-tenths of a point breaking into the A ranks. Zachary High School led the district with a school performance score of 128.9.

POLICIES Mrs. Young moved to approve the following policies: File: BCBK – Executive Sessions; File: GBDA – Employment of Retired Personnel; File: IDCC – Kindergarten; File: IDFA – Interscholastic Athletics; and File: JBA – Compulsory School Attendance Ages and Mr. Swilley seconded the motion. There was no public comment. VOTE: 8 YEAS 0 NAYS 1 ABSENT

COMMITTEE REPORTS – None at this COMMITTEE MEETINGS – Facilities Meeting at 5:30 p.m. on October 18, 2011, at School Board Office.
