BRAN Emergency Repair Specifications

BRAN Emergency Repair Specifications Draft Version 0.4 - JV

General Information The optical fiber cable repair is expected to return the cable back to its near original state in loss, characteristics and length. Those characteristics are given below.

1. The cable will retain its water tight ability. Any splice points added or removed will be water sealed with the parts specified or BRAN approved equivalents. 2. Splices shall be fused with no more than a 0.1dB loss at 1310nm, splinted with the parts specified or BRAN approved equivalents and be tensile strength tested. 3. All unused fibers and any additional fibers designated by BRAN at a repair site location shall be tested. This may include fibers of nearby cables and splice points which may have changed or been disrupted by the damage. 4. Fiber testing shall consist of power meter testing at both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths as well as ODTR testing at those wavelengths in both directions. The test results will be provided electronically with full test parameter information, the equipment used in the test, distance measurements in feet, currently active calibration information, the operators of the test equipment, and the event table names completed with site mnemonics. 5. For cable repairs where less than 50’ of cable will be removed, slack cable should be used. For repairs greater than 50’, owner approved cable will be installed to replace the damaged cable. Any slack used shall be redistributed between the four closest man/hand holes. 6. At any point where the cable was disturbed in a hand hole, manhole, splice point or termination point the cable shall be returned to its original condition. This includes cable management, routing, labeling, etc. to return it to the state before the damage. 7. Any connector removed for testing shall be cleaned before reseating to retain its original performance. 8. Pictures shall be taken of the damaged cable, splice points, etc. of the area before and after the repair. Each picture shall be time/date stamped, labeled and delivered electronically.

The BRAN Network Termination Points/Mnemonics are as follows: (NOTE: Splice Spurs are designated by Spur)
