Does C.O.D. Own the Journal I Need?

DOES C.O.D. OWN THE JOURNAL I NEED?

1. You get a citation to a journal article from either a reference note or a bibliography, or else you find it in an online database, but the article text is not online itself where you found the original citation.

2. To check if the COD Library either owns the journal in question in either print or microfilm format, or to check if the article is available online through some database that the COD Library subscribes to, please follow these steps to use the online journal locator system (which is not always accurate, unfortunately):

a. Go to the Library Homepage (www.cod.edu/library). b. In the center of the row of buttons across the top, click on the “DATABASES" link. c. On this next page, up at the top, click on the tab for “JOURNAL LOCATOR.” d. On this next page, there is an empty box. Here, type in the title of the JOURNAL, not the article, and click on the search button.

3. The results that are returned should indicate either:

a. That the Library does not own either a microfilm or print copy of the journal, and that the Library has no access to the journal through any online database that the Library subscribes to; OR b. That the Library does have access to some volumes in either print and microfilm format, and/or the Library does have access to some volumes of the journal through an online database that the Library subscribes to, and which is linked to right there. In that case, if the volumes and years match what you need, click on the link to the database. You will then be transferred to the database search screen. In the search box, type in the author's last name (if available), and a few key words from the article title, click on the search button, and then up SHOULD come the citation for the article and a link to the full text online. You should then be able to read the article online and print it off or save it.

If the Library does not have access to the article, you may request that the Library get the article for you via the Interlibrary Loan service ( http://lrc.cod.edu/illj ).

There is also an online tutorial available at: http://www.cod.edu/library/research/faq/articles.htm . If you have any questions, please contact either myself or the Library Reference Desk (630-942- 3364). Thank you.
