Post-doctoral position for the research program "Social and Institutional Change in Agricultural Development", University of Hohenheim

The University of Hohenheim is an innovative research-oriented university located near Stuttgart in Southern Germany. Combining world class research with modern teaching, the three faculties of the University-Agricultural Sciences, Economic and Social sciences, and Natural Sciences-attract scientists and students from more than 100 countries. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences is the largest such faculty in Germany and has a strong focus on development-oriented research.

The Institute of Agricultural Economics and Social Sciences in the Tropics and Subtropics at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences seeks qualified candidates for a post- doctoral position in the research program "Social and Institutional Change in Agricultural Development". The goal of this newly established research program is to make the team internationally recognized in research on governance in agricultural development, focusing on the social, institutional and political dimensions of agriculture in developing countries. The successful candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge research in one of these fields.

Since the research program is open to different disciplinary perspectives, we invite applications both

* from candidates with a PhD in rural sociology, development sociology, political science or related fields who specialize in the social and political dimensions of agricultural development, and * from candidates with a PhD in agricultural or development economics who specialize in the economic analysis of agrarian institutions.

The post-doctoral fellow will develop his/her own research agenda in line with the overall goals of the research program. We expect to fill this position with a candidate who recently finished his/her PhD with excellent grades and has a strong focus on publishing in high- ranking international journals. The position involves extended travel to developing countries for empirical research. The post-doctoral fellow will have a teaching responsibility of four hours per week (during the semester seasons).

The successful candidate will be a member of an internationally oriented team and, which places strong emphasis on a collegial work environment. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work with M.Sc. and PhD candidates who conduct research in the fellow´s area of specialization. The faculty also has excellent opportunities to participate in high-profile interdisciplinary research projects. The university offers a full-time public service position (E13). The initial appointment is for two years and can be extended for up to six years, depending on performance. The University of Hohenheim is an equal opportunity employer.
