User Accounts

Granting access to general computing devices, such as your office computer, or enterprise applications, such as your email, and various campus systems requires an account ID and password.

University Directory ID

Most campus and Smith school systems require authentication using the University Directory ID. Once you are active in the payroll system, you will be able to set your account ID and password. You may use this id/password combination to access your office computer, network files, email\collaboration tools, and other campus applications such as PHR timesheets, ARES applications and ELMS.  First-time users may use this page to locate their Directory ID and set their University Directory Password and set Security Questions: https://directory.umd.edu/password?new_user.  Users who know their existing University Directory Password may use this page to change their Directory Password: password.umd.edu.  To learn more about the University Directory ID\Password, go to: http://www.it.umd.edu/password/

Active Directory File Storage

This account allows users to access the Smith School file server which includes any computer located in offices, classrooms, conference rooms or computer labs. Each user receives network space (designated as the K: drive on your computer) for storing school related documents. Storage quotas and access to other shared folders are determined by your role in the Business School. This account is also used for printing. You must be logged in in order to print to the network printers in VMH. Permission to AD is granted via the University Directory ID\password combination.

Smith Apps

Smith Apps is a Citrix XenApp tool that allows Smith students, faculty, and staff to access unique applications that are normally only available in Van Munching Hall computer labs. These applications are delivered to any computer with Internet access that has the Citrix client installed. The goal of SmithApps is to provide the Smith community an off-campus solution to access on-campus services and applications so that the community can do their work, research, and studies anywhere that has Internet access. It also provides Mac users a way to use Windows-only applications (such as Visio or MS Project) on their Mac. Behind the scenes, when using SmithApps a server in Van Munching Hall will launch your program and send the display of the running program over the Internet to your local computer. Even though the program is running remotely, you will still be able use local disks and printers. Permission to Smith Apps is granted via your University Directory ID.
