Introduction

Funding your studies abroad is very often quite a challenge. You will need to pay the tuition fee and cover the costs of learning materials, accommodation, transportation and personal expenses. In order to find out what kinds of financial support are available, we will introduce a number of websites which may be relevant to you. Below you can find a list of institutions who offer scholarship opportunities.

 Erasmus-grant

 Study in Flanders

Study in Flanders (www.studyinflanders.be) provides information on study opportunities in Flanders, Belgium. It also offers a good overview of scholarship opportunities for studying in Flanders.  Development Cooperation

The Belgian Development Cooperation (www.dgci.be) provides general information on the types of grant available for nationals from developing countries wishing to study or undertake training in Belgium. It also describes grants for studies in developing countries (local grants).  European Commission

PLOTEUS (Portal on Learning Opportunities throughout the European Space) (http://ec.europa.eu/ploteus) aims to help students, job seekers, workers, parents, guidance counselors and teachers to find out information about studying in Europe. You will find information about the Erasmus program and other mobility scholarships for university and university college students who have already completed one year of their studies. The grants system makes it possible to attend classes at a partner institution in another country. Some 29 countries, including 15 in Europe, are involved in this program.  Scholarshipportal.eu

The scholarshipportal project (www.scholarshipportal.eu) is a gateway to find scholarships in Europe. People will be able to quickly find and contact the relevant opportunities from the thousands that are available.  Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program (http://foreign.fulbrightonline.org/) brings citizens of other countries to the United States for Master’s degree or Ph.D. study at U.S. universities or other appropriate institutions. Foreign students apply for Fulbright Fellowships through the Fulbright Commission/Foundation or U.S. Embassy in their home countries.  Belgian American Educational Foundation

The Belgian American Educational Foundation (www.baef.be) supports the exchange of university students, scientists and scholars between the United States and Belgium.  United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

UNESCO provides fellowships through its UNESCO Fellowship Bank Scheme (www.unesco.org/education/studyingabroad/networking/fellowship.shtml). It requires that all applications be channeled through the National Commission for UNESCO of a candidate's country. UNESCO cannot consider direct, individual requests for funding.  International Education Financial Aid

IEFA (http://iefa.org) is a resource for financial aid, college scholarship and grant information for US and international students wishing to study abroad. It has a comprehensive listing of grants, scholarships, loan programs and other information.  Ford Foundation

The vast majority of Ford Foundation grants go to organizations. Individuals however may apply for fellowships for advanced degrees in areas of interest to the foundation. Information on the World Bank Institute (WBI) Scholarships and Fellowships Program can be found here (www.worldbank.org).  ASEMDUO

ASEM-DUO Fellowship Program (www.asemduo.org) has supported exchanges of professors and students in tertiary education field between Asia and Europe under ASEM domain.
