Mini-Scrapbook Book Report Civil War: Historical Fiction You need to have your book by Monday, September 21. Scrapbook Report Due: Friday, November 20

______ELEMENTS OF THE REPORT This report will focus on the main character of the book. You will create a scrapbook as if you were the main character: first person perspective. SCRAPBOOK COVER Include the following: ____Title and author of the book ____Character’s name ____Your name ____Illustration

JOURNAL ENTRIES Write 5-7 journal entries (1st person). These should give a basic summary of the book. ____Written in complete sentences and paragraph structure ____Include a brief description of the main character, setting, major events, and conclusion of the story ____Your entries should include important dates and references to the Civil War or events of the era (underground railroad, slavery, battles, pioneering, or famous people). You may create dates that the character wrote the journal entries. ____The entries may be typed or written in manuscript or cursive, and they should be glued into your scrapbook.

PICTURES/PHOTOGRAPHS Four pictures or photographs must be included in your scrapbook. Photos can be from a website or copied from a book. You could cut black and white pictures from a magazine. You could create all the pictures from the description in your book using your own artistic talents. Include these pictures or photographs: ____The main character ____The main character’s family and friends (supporting characters) ____Some depiction of the setting of the story ____One picture of your choice that you believe is important to the story For each picture you will write a descriptive sentence. (caption)

SOUVENIRS At least four souvenirs should be put into your scrapbook. These mementoes may be drawn, collected from home, or created by you. The objects should fit into the story and be a piece that tells something about the character. Think of important things you might want to save and collect for a scrapbook. ____Secure the items in your scrapbook (glue, tape, yarn, string, etc.) ____You will write a descriptive sentence under each memento explaining the importance of the item. Remember you are the main character as you create this scrapbook.
