What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

*ACT is a scientifically based Psychotherapy Model

What are the Basic Ideas (Assumptions) behind ACT?

1. People are not broken (Functional Contextualism) 2. People can get stuck( Psychological Inflexibility= Experiential Avoidance/Control/Fusion/ Lack of contact with present moment, Conceptualized Self and Lack of Committed Actions) 3. People can be less stuck by learning what works in moving them in the direction of what important to them (Psychological Flexibility=Willingness, Present moment contact, Self-as-Context, Values/Committed Actions) 4. Emphasis is on learning by doing/experience(Experiential Approach to Behavior Change)

What is the Goal of ACT?

To assist you in answering the Question:

Given what is important to me what am I willing to do and experience in order to move me in that direction in this moment in this situation.

This question can only be answered by Action and not with Words.

*Warning: Learning from experience( by doing) can be confusing at times!

ARE YOU WILLING TO START THIS PROCESS?
