LEES CORNER PTA MEETING MINUTES February 5, 2013

The meeting was called to order by Liz Persell, PTA president, in LCES cafeteria at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.

Special Guest Kathy Smith (School Board Member, Sully District). Kathy joined us to discuss:  School Board Overview  Superintendent Search (Jack Dale’s retirement date is scheduled for June 30, 2013)  Discipline Committee (Students Rights & Responsibilities (SRR)) committee are currently working on community feedback  Budget  School Board Work Calendar

Budget Paula Kramp, PTA Treasurer, presented the status of the 2012-2013 PTA Budget YTD. The treasurer’s report will be posted on the LCES PTA website. Please review for full details. Principal’s Report Mr. D’Amato discussed the following:

 Security Updates. The new security details are working out well. The interior doors (cafeteria and gym) are locked during the day & teachers have keys. The students are utilizing the exterior doors on the first floor which keeps them from having to walk in front of the school

 February is Black History Month. The Social Studies Committee has put together a slide presentation that is being streamed out to the school televisions.

 Math and Science Night (to be held at the end of February) will be night of activities at the event and as take home projects. More information to follow in a KIT

 School Improvement Plan (SIP) – the plan is posted on the LCES website http://www.fcps.edu/LeesCornerES/docs/LeesCornerES%20Model%20A%20SIP%202012- 13%20Jan16Rev.pdf. Please take a moment and review the SIP and how these strategies and enrichments are benefiting our students.

Teacher’s Report Mrs. Heffron gave an update that the Library’s newest murals are being added. Please stop by and visit the progress. The students have commented positively with regards to the design.

PTA President’s Update Liz Persell announced that we are in need of volunteers for the following events:

 Track-A-Thon (May 2013). Christy Youk gave a quick update of this event and how we hope reach a goal of $30,000.  6th Grade Basketball (March 2013)  Movie Night (February 8, 2013)  Dog Fish Ale Dining Out Night (February 26, 2013)  Box Tops for the Schools – deadline for Box Tops submissions for this calendar year is March 1, 2013. There is also a contest going on now through February 14, 2013 for the students to participate in and be registered for a raffle.

The PTA will need the following Chairpersons:  Nominations Committee Chair needed for the executive board elections as well as people to serve as President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Recording Secretary.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 9:00 PM was passed unanimously.
