POLICY NUMBER TITLE: Energy Reduction Initiatives REDM 08-101 EFFECTIVE: March 25, 2008
PURPOSE This policy reduces the energy consumed by the Department of Management Services (DMS) and its managed facilities by implementing energy conservation methods to lower utility costs, energy consumption, and carbon footprint emissions. Such methods are as follows:
Increase temperature set point controls throughout office buildings with the goal of reaching 76 degrees in the summer, and 70 degrees in the winter. Certain approved exceptions will apply depending on the age and use of the facility. Limited after-hours facility use. Approval required for any exceptions to this policy. Prohibition of personal appliances outside kitchen and common break room space. Examples of such equipment are: space heaters, refrigerators, hot plates, and any other non-work related appliances. Daily shut-down of all non-essential office equipment at the close of business. Use of only compact fluorescent lights (CFL’s) in all personal desk lamps and task lighting. Usage of window blinds to utilize or prevent heat gain to the facilities during various seasons. Establishment of incentive programs by each Agency for alternative transportation methods and telecommuting/flexible work schedules for qualified employees.
SCOPE This policy is applicable to all DMS-managed buildings and occupants.
