Improving Quality Together Gold Network Development

Overview

As part of the Improving Quality Together (IQT) framework, discussions regarding the development of the Gold level have highlighted the need for a network approach during this transitional stage.

There is recognition that a number of individuals within NHS Wales have detailed understanding and experience of quality improvement.

These vary in levels of formal qualification in quality improvement, length of experience in quality improvement, and scope of experience in applying or supporting quality improvement.

It is essential to harness this variety of expertise and knowledge to support Silver delegates in the delivery of their quality improvements, as well as supporting their future potential development to Gold level.

Gold Network members

Within this group of Gold network members, there will be individuals identified to cascade the training of IQT within their organisation. These individuals will be known as Gold Improvement Coaches, and need to have either TAP Delivery skills accreditation, or equivalent.

Health Boards and Trusts need to identify who these individuals are: both Gold and Gold Improvement Coaches. They will have to submit outlines of at least 3 quality improvements that they have supported within the last 18 months whose approach maps across to the Silver level material.

These individuals will form a network that, over the coming year, will be responsible for the development of a Gold training programme to bridge the future gap between Silver and Gold.

This network will also provide a forum for:  Improvement Coaches to feedback and develop Silver materials further  Advice and support for Improvement Coaches  Further learning and development of all members

Gold Network Schedule

The Network Schedule for 2013/2014 will ultimately focus on preparing organisations’ Gold Improvement Coaches to provide cascade training and support to Silver and Bronze delegates within their organisation.

FINAL 19/12/12 1 The wider network will focus on developing the Gold core content material, as well as bringing other relevant learning and development sessions.

The Network will meet 5 times over the coming year. Between these learning sets, the Improvement Coaches will be delivering Silver training within their organisations and presenting their learning back to the wider network.

Throughout these learning sets the learning objectives, assessment criteria and supporting core content for Gold level will be developed.

Next Steps

Health Boards and Trusts need to identify who their proposed Gold network members are: both Gold and Gold Improvement Coaches, and identify them as such.

These individuals will then have to submit outlines of at least 3 quality improvements that they have supported within the last 18 months whose approach maps across to the Silver level material.

The submission outline for Silver maps across to the NHS Awards template, and so will be less onerous on organisations.

The first meeting of the Network will be held in the last week of February, preceding the launch of IQT on 1st March. The first meeting will be for individuals interested in learning more about the network and individuals will be required to completed a quality improvement skills, knowledge and experience self-assessment prior to the meeting. Dates for the remainder of the year will be finalised at this event.
