Course Description: The science program for seventh grade is an integrated approach covering life science, physics, chemistry and Earth/space science. This science course is designed to develop the student’s skill and proficiency in using the scientific inquiry process.

Course Content: Topics covered in seventh grade science include:  Science skills *scientific inquiry process, data displays, microscope use, etc.  Life Science *cell processes, cell reproduction, heredity  Physics *energy forms, energy transformation, waves  Chemistry *states of matter, physical/chemical changes, conservation of mass  Earth/Space *Law of gravitation, Earth/moon/sun interactions

Course Grading: The majority of the assignments are activities and lab experiences that are completed in the classroom. Occasionally, a student may need to complete a lab write up at home. All class work is completed in the student’s science journal. Journals are collected one time weekly and are graded. No late journal work will be accepted. (In the event that the student forgets to turn in their journal on grading day, 1 point will be taken off of each assignment per day.)

Makeup work: Students should check with the teacher upon returning from an absence for any makeup work.

Classroom Expectations: All students are expected to… 1. …respect yourself, others, and property. 2. …be seated on time and ready to work (pencil sharpened, journal out, quiet at the bell), otherwise a student would be considered tardy. 3. …bring each day an organized notebook with dividers, paper, pencil, science journal and planner. A metric ruler and calculator are recommended. 4. …not use food or candy in the classroom. 5. …try your best in all that you do!

Classroom Interventions: Interventions for non-compliance with classroom expectations include verbal reminders, conferencing with the student, changing student seat or location, behavior reflection sheets, and contacting parents. If the non- compliance issue continues, becomes a safety issue, or negatively impacts the learning environment, students will be referred to the administrator and/or counselor.
