Name: Shea Peeples

1. How long have you been a listener KFAI? 10 years or so.

2. The KFAI Program Committee holds monthly evening meetings, currently the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm. Is this a commitment you can make? Yes!

3. Why do you want to be a member of the Program Committee? I deeply care about and believe in the potential of community radio actually to represent the communities covered in the listening area, to bring people together, and to act as an indispensable and democratic news and information source. The more we can tell one another about the reality of our communities, and the more we can celebrate creativity together, the better off we are. I like what's happening at KFAI and want to be more involved.

4. What goals and objectives do you hope to accomplish on the Program Committee? The Twin Cities and surrounding areas are wonderfully diverse and I want this station reflect and share that even more. I’m quite an eclectic music fan, crave local news, and am really pleased with the homegrown direction the station seems to be taking (goodbye and good riddance, The Takeaway) and want to support and increase all that.

5. Describe any special skills and experience you have that would benefit the Program Committee and KFAI. I have deepening connections in my Phillips neighborhood based on friendship and on organizing for positive change around some issues at the heart of community well-being; really do love learning about all kinds of music and other arts; and though an idea person, am also a determined worker. As a librarian, you can hardly stop me from spreading the resources…and analyzing information is what we do.

6. Please compose a brief essay of no more than one hundred fifty (150) words describing your skills, qualifications and community-based experiences that will allow you to assist the Program Committee in meeting the station’s mission. I know that community radio can be extremely significant in the life of communities, want to put my shoulder to that wheel, and believe I’ve got some experience and skills that would support the station’s mission of diverse music, arts and news programming. Also, I really like meetings. My qualifications include being a good listener, thoughtful contributor and a connector; years of community organizing in a range of communities around a range of issues, building a variety of relationships; years of working to dissolve the negative effects of my conditioning as an agent of oppression, at the same time developing as a reliable ally in solidarity with people in identity groups other than my own; crackerjack research skills; love of sharing; love of people and creation; devotion to this station.
