Homework- Set and Independent The Department of Education has developed guidelines for homework in Queensland schools. The following overview is based on these guidelines.  In Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 some homework is set by and should be completed daily or over a weekly or fortnightly period. This may include daily independent reading and includes set tasks.  In Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 students are given more responsibility for their own learning. They will usually be required to engage in independent learning to complement work undertaken in class.  Homework for secondary students could be up to but generally not more than 5 hours a week.  While some subjects will have regular set homework, other subjects can administer homework tasks as required.  Students should always be reviewing the work covered in class as part of their homework and should be aware that this will contribute to their familiarity and content knowledge for further in class applications (Independent homework).  Study for exams and review of work should also be considered homework. It is expected that students use the assessment overview to plan their study / review time to ensure they are best prepared for assessment tasks.
