Platform member commitments Organisation Short Summary of members commitments Joined 1ST Platform Meeting – 9 June 2010 Centrica British The implementation of a branded, cohesive health and wellbeing programme across Gas the British Gas employee base which delivers improvement in the health and wellbeing of their people. This will require additional new investment, and the development of a number of new strategic partnerships.

The programme comprises a new corporate partnership to deliver on-line and face to face health checks (to be trialled in the East Midlands) for 27,000 employees and support for a physical activity programme for 10,000 employees in 2010. This will also be the basis for sponsoring 10,000 school children to increase their physical activity.

A survey will be undertaken in conjunction with Lancaster University to study the impacts of physical activity on improved health and wellbeing of employees. At the same time, links with Change4life will be developed around building messages and resource into the programme’s scope. Shoe Zone The commitment will bring together all Healthier Workforce ideas under the new FIT ZONE banner. It combines increased promotion of existing health and wellbeing facilities with the introduction of a number of new initiatives.

New initiatives include ladies only time in the gym; personal trainer led exercise sessions; cheaper healthier food in the canteen; fitness tests and education on lifestyle changes; promoting cycling to work; the development of external and group employee activities.

An employee needs assessment/survey is also proposed at regular intervals to help make informed decisions on additional support that staff would like and to measure the programme’s success. Walkers The introduction of a new programme for employees called ‘An 8 week step in the Charnwood right direction’ which is an exciting, time specific initiative to provide goals for Bakery individuals with rewards. In addition to raising the profile of health and wellbeing, it will also enhance teamwork, motivation and interaction.

The programme is incentivised with prizes and covers a wide range of weigh-ins/ targeted Health Assessments/ Nutritional Advice. Occupational Health support and a revised approach to restaurant facilities are key features along with exploring a more active approach for employees getting to work.

Employees will be constantly monitored for health improvements and consulted for their views on how to improve the experience and encourage accountability. Slimming Employee weight loss and improving their health through sponsored membership of World the Slimming World programmes. Two elements of the commitment are:

Slimming World is offering for their own employees, vouchers for 12 weeks’ attendance at group meetings free of charge. The scheme is entirely voluntary and employees who do not want to attend group sessions could take up the option of joining Slimming World online via www.bodyoptimise.com for 3 months.

The second aspect is to pilot a ‘Working Well with Slimming World’ initiative, the aim of which is to work closely with two East Midlands employers in developing a comprehensive and effective healthy lifestyle change model based on Slimming World’s methods. This includes funding a research project for 200 employees and collecting data to evidence the effectiveness and improved productivity and profitability of a healthy lifestyle weight management programme for employers. A key aim is to test practicalities and effectiveness of in-house weight management groups versus community groups of employees’ choice. Nuffield Health The commitment does not involve the health and wellbeing of Nuffield Health’s own staff but is based on the provision of its services to address the health and wellbeing of both the public and corporate communities.

It comprises a free annual programme of community ‘Meet the Experts’ events focused on obesity and targeted at key East Midlands ‘hotspots’; a range of health prizes for community events which will include health assessments and advice; complementary passes to fitness and wellbeing centres.

In addition, free corporate health and wellbeing consultations are being offered to local businesses who are members of the Platform with follow up support on how to develop or improve their health and wellbeing strategies.

Institution of The commitment is being delivered under the new programme of ‘Let’s Get IOSH Occupational Moving Forward Together’ and will be run for all Head Office employees based in Safety and Leicester. A number of objectives have been set following a staff survey using the Health British Heart Foundation ‘Think Fit’ resource pack.

Objectives include health assessments; health walks; exercise classes and possible reduced cost gym membership; health education and weight management. IOSH have actively sought support from their local authority – Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.

Once the programme is up and running, progress and success will be evaluated for all objectives and the results published to the 37,000 IOSH membership.

NHS East NHS East Midlands is committed to improving the quality of working life for all of our Midlands (SHA) employees. This includes recognition that balancing work and home life is a key consideration for all. The main aims of “FIT” - the EMSHA Staff Well-being Programme are:

 Improving organisational behaviours and performance  Achieving an exemplar service  Embedding staff health and wellbeing into systems and infrastructure

And in line with the recent Boorman review on NHS staff health and wellbeing. 1. All PCTs have been asked to include a plan for their health community to improve workplace wellness, based on the recommendations of the NHS Health and Wellbeing Review and set local targets for reduction of sickness absence in their Local Operating Plan submission. 2. Facilitate a network of NHS workplace wellbeing leads. 3. To explore the feasibility of including the regional 'guidance in developing healthier catering and hospitality checklist' in the contracts developed by the Regional Procurement Hub.

Soil To bring together and facilitate a meeting between a SW based Nursery working to Association Food For Life (FFL) Accredited standards on their food offer, to share learning, best practice, information and networking with circa 22 East Midlands Nurseries involved in the recent sampling research and other targeted nurseries as appropriate. This would be a starting point for exploration of further potential shared working and skills sharing opportunities with a view to having a minimum of 5 of those nurseries progress to the bronze standard catering mark, by May 2011, with the support of the Soil Association and its partners.

University of To provide independent evaluation support for members of the Platform engaging in Lincoln health projects involving physical activity and health eating. Services include: tailored project advice; ethical procedures; possible provision aid with delivery/resources; and assistance with the monitoring/reporting the project findings Joined 2nd Platform meeting– 15 October 2010 Derby County To improve the health, wellbeing and worklife balance of Derby County Football Club Football Club employees by providing information about healthy lifestyles, creating opportunities for physical activity and providing access to preventative services, enabling people to work happily and healthily to their full potential.

We will commit to build on work already undertaken in the area of health and wellbeing and begin to manage this within a more formal and targeted health and wellbeing framework and strategy. We will help staff to gain a greater understanding of their individual levels of health and fitness through initiatives and interventions delivered in the workplace.

Derby County Derby County in the Community staff will work with children in local schools to teach in the them more about being healthy, fit and active. The programme supports and promotes Community healthy lifestyles with the main aim of tackling rising obesity rates in two geographic areas. The programme is free of charge to the children and is delivered with a primary focus on children in Year 5.

The project is a six week programme of physical activity and classroom lessons in 106 schools across 2 School Sports Partnerships (Amber Valley and Erewash). The six week block of work incorporates mini leaders and positive play activities during school lunches. Curriculum sessions are both practical and classroom based with sessions delivered on health, diet, nutrition and benefits of exercise. The after-school provision is a multi-skill based practical session. Each school over the 6 weeks benefits from 4 additional learning hours per class.

Derby Derby Hospitals have made a commitment to improve the health of both their staff Hospitals NHS and patients by introducing the following: Foundation For staff Trust  2012 ‘Be Inspiring’ campaign, where staff pledge to achieve something linked to the 2012 Olympics, such as losing weight/swimming 2012 lengths or cycling 2012 kilometres.  Regular blood pressure/diabetes testing drop in sessions and introduction of a new weight reduction class to give staff a choice or weight loss regime  Healthy eating campaigns with a healthy choice and calorie counted option on the restaurant menu. Onsite shops to have healthy eating options available, such as fruit and low fat meals and sandwiches  Campaign to promote staff walking including: maps/pedometers to encourage staff to be more active whilst at work; to take the stairs instead of the lift with a step and calorie count on each floor.

For patients  Regular health awareness campaigns on blood testing, diabetes etc to raise awareness and prevention.  Walking events for bariatric patients. And encouraging all patients to take part in Charity Events such as the Jingle Jog and Derby 10k events.  Healthy eating campaigns with a healthy choice option on the menu in the restaurant which is calorie counted. Onsite shops/vending machines to have healthy eating options available, such as fruit and low fat meals and sandwiches.

Derby Hospitals will also share the good practice with other Platform members.

Greencore To review and improve healthy option offerings in staff restaurants across 5 Greencore sites.

This will involve working with a newly appointed contract caterer to develop new healthy eating recipes and options suitable for each restaurant and to develop ways of communicating and promoting these to consumers. The uptake of the healthy options will be monitored with sales data and a questionnaire to assess the effect on customers on their eating behaviour. This will be monitored over a period of six months post launch. Greencore will also be able to share general learning’s and experience with other members of the platform, and as appropriate learning from their food-first programme Groundwork East Midlands supports 6 local Groundwork Trusts in the region, Groundwork – Groundwork Creswell, Ashfield & Mansfield; Groundwork Derby, Derbyshire; East Midlands Groundwork Greater Nottingham; Groundwork Leicester, Leicestershire; Groundwork Lincolnshire; Groundwork Northamptonshire. Groundwork East Midlands has committed to taking two actions as follows:

1. To bring the 6 Groundwork Trusts together (Project Managers and Development Managers) creating a regional working group to share best practice, learn and discuss their activities in the area of health, food and activity on a regular basis with information gathered and shared in an online forum/tool. The regional working group will also undertake the joint programme below.

2. To develop a joint programme with all 6 Trusts working with NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) groups of young people. The aim of the joint programme will be to develop local food initiatives and provide horticultural accreditations, and create community champions to support households and the community in healthy eating behaviour.

To design and implement a novel pilot intergenerational healthy eating, food memories Food and food mapping project. The aims of the project will be to: Initiatives Group –  Map access to healthy food in Killisick (Groundwork –  Improve cooking skills, and therefore diets, of young people. Greater  Improve diets of older people with an emphasis on salt reduction and nutrition Nottingham)  Create a sound cultural and social base for healthy eating through shared experiences Let’s Get To develop and provide a course of 3 training workshops in healthy eating and cooking Cooking to employees of Platform member organisations, and further courses at cost. Sessions will be used to met employee needs engage and train employees in basic cooking skills and healthy eating.

The programme will be evaluated to measure the impact it has had on employee healthy eating behaviour and also to assess the viability of Lets Get Cooking sessions to be extended from schools in to the workplace and other settings.

Natural Promote healthy lifestyles among employees, volunteer walk leaders and walk England participants.

 Provide healthy eating information in the delegate packs for cascade trainers and walk leaders

 Create a health intranet page with a different health focus each month.

 Offer free walk leader training and support to other platform organisations wishing to set up health walks.

Sustrans – East There are two elements to this commitment: 1) To lead a workshop on the value of Midlands sourcing products and services that will increase active travel (cycling and walking etc) and reduce carbon emissions.

2) To support other platform member organisations in developing active travel plans and look at the steps they need to take to enable their employees to travel actively; increase their physical activity in travelling to and from and for work purposes.

Nottingham To develop, implement and share a whole council food policy for Nottingham City City Council Council including all of its food-related functions. The ultimate aim of this policy is to improve the diet and nutrition of Nottingham City Council employees and service users and to be an exemplar of good practise in this area. This will involve:  Finalising the writing of a comprehensive healthy food policy to cover all of the functions of the City Council e.g. vending, catering  Implementing the policy through planned delivery throughout the City Council and its target group of service users and suppliers - including council establishments where food is delivered to vulnerable groups such as children, older people and people with learning disabilities.  Sharing the emerging best practice and lessons learnt from the development of the policy with Platform members and interested parties in the East Midlands and wider. This will be done through individual organisation or group sessions as appropriate.  To evaluate the policy impact 12 months after the launch of the implementation plan – with support from Platform member/s

Nottingham To change the health culture of the organisation and staff of a large NHS Trust University Hospital to become a health-promoting organisation where staff lead by example being Hospitals NHS actively encouraged and empowered to make healthy choices at work. This will be Trust done through: 1: a range of schemes that build on their current programme to continue to improve NUH staff health through: 2012 Challenge, a range of programmes to increase physical activity, healthy eating (including via canteen menus), slimming programmes and reducing smoking. 2: To provide support and mentoring to other platform members around workplace wellness e.g. learning from achieving the Food for Life Award and their acclaimed Q- Active scheme.

Notts County There are two aspects to the commitment: Football in the 1.To improve employee health and wellbeing through a range of activities and ensure Community wellbeing is incorporated into the overall business strategy. 2. To explore the opportunities for introducing healthier food options within the matchday catering services at the Meadow Lane stadium, working with their in-house catering services and supporters. Monitor and evaluate the performance of both elements to ensure a positive impact on health and wellbeing can be demonstrated against the set targets.

Sport To work with Platform members organisations to develop physical activity programmes Nottinghamshire within the workplace aimed at increasing sport and physical activity participation. To include the following elements:

Conducting an evaluation and needs assessment of staff in order to identify: the activities they would like to take part in, barriers to participations etc. Using the data collected to aid the design of a scheme. Assisting employers to setting up sports leagues/sessions or physical activity sessions as appropriate. Providing access to the Shape Up Notts! online activity tool Supporting organisations to sustain any activity in the long term including training staff to organise sports leagues and physical activity sessions

Nottingham Trent University School of Science and Technology will assist in evaluating the impact of the project. Evaluation will be tailored to the needs of each organisation.

Joined 3rd Platform meeting – 17th February 2011

‘Keep the Beat’- This is an educational cardiovascular programme for all E.ON E-on employees. We are focusing on cardiovascular health because 43% of our staff are over 40 (and considered as a ‘high risk group’) and the health data we have collected from previous assessments highlights BMI and BP as key issues. From February 2011- December 2011 we are committed to:  Providing education and information on heart risk to all of our staff  Reducing the heart risk score of over 40s in a targeted way  Having a proactive approach to reducing likelihood of developing cardio vascular disease We will be using our in house occupational health team of 15 Occupational health nurses and 3 physiologists to deliver the ‘Heart Hub’ event at the different sites. A bespoke ‘Action station’ health kiosk for each location where individuals can obtain health measurements relating to height, weight, body mass index, and blood pressure will also be provided. We will produce information leaflets relating to the various health topics for each site. The b-You programme aims to reduce health inequalities by improving health and NHS Derby City wellbeing of targeted groups, communities and individuals where the greatest health PCT inequalities are experienced. b-You is a 1 year pilot providing a primary prevention programme specifically targeting individuals who are at risk of COPD, CVD, or with a BMI over 30. Clients (patients) will be supported to participate on a holistic programme to change unhealthy behaviours and adopt healthy lifestyles, thereby reducing the need / reliance on secondary care services. b-You will provide a client centred pathway for a maximum of 12 months, providing goal setting and intense support during the first 6 – 12 weeks with continued support and action planning, where appropriate, for the remainder of the year, tapering off as and when appropriate. The support will be tailored to the client and participants can choose from an array of interventions suited to their needs including Ready Steady cook sessions, supermarket shopping “tours”, personal training sessions and “Try it” passes to leisure centres and activities to a name a few. The pilot will trial a range of approaches and includes an extensive review/evaluation.

Lincolnshire Quest for Gold provides the opportunity for anyone to try out all of the Olympic and Sports Paralympic Sports in the build up to the 2012 Games. The project will last from March Partnership 2011 until July 2012 and be closely linked to the Games. Taster sessions will be organised, and established sports clubs across Lincolnshire will be on hand to guide people towards their local clubs. This programme will be widely promoted countywide and all sports are free following a small, single administration fee.

Sports Clubs will be offering up to 6 ‘Gold’ sessions over the course of the project, to allow people plenty of opportunity to try each sport. Mass participation events will be held to include sports where there are not established clubs. There is no minimum number of events a person can try. It is completely inclusive and promotes all of the Paralympic Sports.A celebration ceremony will be held in August 2012 to honour the achievements participants have made. Bronze, silver and gold awards will be given based on the level of quest that has been achieved. Platform member organisations are offered a discount on the administration fee which will give low cost access and opportunities for people to take part in more physical activity.

Walkers Snack We propose to establish an on site Health Action Team (HAT) for our staff by the end Foods of Quarter 1. This team will be our arms and legs to deliver our Health & Wellness (Pepsico) programme this year and beyond. Within our first year we will include:  Budgetary changes on catering costs, creating positive price pointers (Cutting the cost) of healthier food in our canteen and Launching an eat well campaign  We will get our new gym/ leisure facility up and running, and use our HAT to plan events and promotions to encourage attendance from employees who are not traditional gym members, and work with local weight management, nutrition, cooking skills and physical activity support services We have baseline data on our staff health status and we will re run our health ‘check ups’ on an ongoing bi annual basis to measure if the baseline has moved and if concerns are being addressed.

Leicestershire To implement a Health and Well Being Policy with a particular emphasis on healthy County Council corporate catering guidelines within LCC and NHS LCR by September 2011 e.g. & NHS vending, catering, community centres, and other food-related council activity. We will Leicestershire then implement the policy through a planned delivery throughout the Council and PCT County & Rutland PCT with the target group of service users and suppliers - including council establishments where food is delivered to vulnerable groups such as children, older people and people with learning disabilities. Our ultimate aim is to improve the diet and nutrition of our employees and services users in Leicestershire and be seen as an exemplar of good practise in this area. We will evaluate the policy impact 12 months after the launch of the implementation plan. The Health and Well Being policy will be the overarching policy covering obesity, physical activity in the workplace and environment, smoking cessation, long term sickness and incapacity for work and promoting mental well being at work. We will initially identify existing service provision and then suggest new initiatives so LCC and NHS LCR can be exemplars of best practice to the multi partner Health and Wellbeing Board.

Leicestershire There is growing evidence that diet and exercise is an effective treatment for mild to Fit for Work moderate depression, and excess weight can impact on musculoskeletal problems. Service LFFWS will identify and reflect the influence of lifestyle on all clients with mental health (LFFWS) and musculoskeletal problems and to provide them with information and advice on aspects of diet and exercise. We offer support to individuals who have been signed off on long term sickness and are at risk of becoming unemployed and we hope to extend this to newly employed clients ( subject to new contract). We will work closely with, and refer into where appropriate a variety weight management, nutrition, cooking skills and physical activity support services. LFFWS will assist the ‘creating a healthy workforce agenda’ by road testing the pilot health assessment tools (self assessment questionnaire, health status health check and perceptions of health priorities questionnaire) starting in March.

Kettering Improving healthy lifestyles of staff – Our programme will include a range of offers General and support to staff including: Health Trainer one to one support giving direct access Hospital NHS to advice and support on health living. We have a Golden Heartbeat Award for our Foundation food and provide a variety of freshly prepared foods including healthy options. This Trust will be promoted further through recipe competition/ publishing healthy recipes for staff to use at home/ promoting the Change4life initiative for staff and patients

We have a Run England group and football team. To increase physical exercise amongst staff we plan to promote walks in and around the hospital site encouraging walking and exercise at breaks. We offer discounted membership to local fitness clubs. We are actively pursuing national initiatives such as the ‘fit to care’ for nurses and have engaged with NHS Discounts to provide us with regular material for staff regarding a health lifestyle. We will encourage more staff to cycle to work (e.g. have events where a free ‘healthy’ breakfast is provided to anyone cycling to work) and a bicycle purchase scheme, bicycle parking and showers for those cycling into work. Working with Corby Borough Council we will publicise to staff the SWAP scheme (smoking cessation, weight management, exercise and diet management). We hope to offer weight management courses on site run across different times of the day.

Working with volunteers we plan to set up and maintain a hospital allotment as a show case for growing your own and eating more vegetables and fruit. This will potentially be a joint venture with Estates who are looking to grow their own plants for use on the hospital site as well as develop an activity for schools to help children overcome any anxiety about coming into hospital. Northamptonshire Making Change 4 Life a Reality – This will build on our current activity of promoting Library healthy lifestyles through our dedicated Library Coordinator for Health and Wellbeing Services who builds partnerships to promote and facilitate the use of libraries to inform the general public about health and wellbeing. Our libraries are used by Peer Supporters to meet with clients recovering from mental health issues and NHS Health Trainers are co-located in 6 of our libraries, which also provide enhanced book collections and health information and advice on key areas of concern. Over the next two years we will:  Co-promote the Change 4 Life programme to partners across the county which can include providing families with 1:1 sessions guiding them on using the website and the Swap-a-thon.  Work with all 50 children’s centres based within the county to support the health eating agenda beginning by offering Reading Breakfast events.  Enable the Programme Co-ordinator Librarian, Health and Well Being to run training sessions for children’s centre staff on how to fully utilise the recommended healthy eating websites with their families Support Platform Members delivering healthy eating events in Northamptonshire by offering free use of a meeting room in our libraries for an initial event.

To increase the accessibility of physical activity and healthy eating sessions to those Food and most in need of support. Activity FAB will work with other local businesses within the Platform to identify opportunities Buddies (FAB) for improving the health of their workforce. Leicester Initially FAB will offer 1 free Weight Management Course per local Platform member for 12-15 identified people*. FAB will measure success on individuals completing the 6 week course and either losing weight and/or showing changes in daily healthy eating and physical activity behaviour. The first course will be at no cost to the company or individuals; however a company may consider giving time from an individual’s working day to attend the course. FAB will aim to complete the first course within 2 months from initial planning meetings to course completion feedback.

Active Women –Less women take part in sport than men. FAB can offer specific sport sessions to groups of women interested in participating in sport and learning how to play sports such as badminton. Initially as part of the commitment FAB will offer 4 sessions to 4 groups of women. This will be available for women who have care of children U16 and/or live in areas of disadvantage. Individuals will be weighed and measured and their physical activity levels will be monitored. The 4 sessions will be part subsidised by FAB for individuals to participate in. This is a brand new programme and will be available from April/May 2011.

Nottingham The Sport, Health and Performance Enhancement (SHAPE) research group from the Trent University will offer support and guidance to help design a robust monitoring and University evaluation process for two Platform member organisations, and where appropriate, additional resources committed through engaging undergraduate students from the BSc (H) Exercise, Nutrition and Health degree to aid with data collection and analysis. The commitment will also include support with the analysis of research outcomes and the dissemination of the research to a wider audience. NTU will also lead a seminar session to the Platform members on the use of dynamic interactive gaming systems (DIGS) as a means of accumulating healthy levels of physical activity.

Nottingham The Forest Factor, to improve the physical and mental health of children and their Forest families. 2 elements to the commitment: Charitable 1) To educate children and parents on the benefits of improving their eating and Trust exercise habits, to reduce the levels of childhood obesity in Nottingham and to provide activities that help support the improvement in children’s mental and physical wellbeing. We will engage the family members through working with specialist practitioners who are already working in schools to identify where targeted children need support, we will also set up sessions where children, older siblings and parents can come together to take part in physical activities and healthy lifestyle programmes. 2. Deliver a range of Physical activity sessions 24 schools per year (8 per term) will participate in the project who will all receive a 10 week programme. Over 3 years a total of 72 schools.( 80% of city schools ) will participate. Resulting in 4,320 Primary aged children will accessing the services available through the project. Each school will receive 10 weeks of practical delivery from the Nottingham Forest coaching team, each visit will be of a 3 hour duration and will include football related coaching and playing sessions, multi game and skill activities all revolving around physical activity, inclusion and fun.

Each term, 8 schools will take part in a Festival of Celebration and Achievement this will be in addition to the regular programme and will involve 80 children each term.

Boston Grow2Eat Borough Boston Borough Council and Garden Organic will work with Boston Mayflower and Council and other local partners to encourage more local people, particularly those from the most Garden Organic disadvantaged backgrounds, to grow, harvest and cook their own food. We will do this by: Promoting ‘grow your own’ as a sustainable way of producing cheaper, healthier, nutritious food by:  Developing community growing spaces and supporting home growing  Holding events  Publicising the ‘One Pot Pledge’ including promotional containers with edible crops Raising confidence levels and equipping participants with the necessary skills for growing, harvesting and cooking healthier food by:  Recruiting, training and supporting volunteer Master Gardeners to provide up to 12 months free advice to individuals at the community growing spaces as well as those residents who want to do home growing  Developing a Lincolnshire Master Gardeners website  Encouraging new growers to take part in the associated Food4Life and Cook4Life programmes managed by Boston Mayflower  Monitoring participation rates and effectiveness

Joined November 1st 2011 Leicester-Shire Active Together Workplace Challenge Business Games. & Rutland LRS will enhance the Active Together Workplace Challenge with the aim of recruiting Sport more workplaces and more participants by July 2012 - target 150 workplaces/ 1,500 participants. The following additional elements to the Workplace Challenge will be developed and promoted to participants:

 Business Games: Workplaces will have the opportunity to participate in a one day multi sport festival against other local workplaces; target 50 workplaces/ 500 participants  Workplace Survey: Workplaces will be offered the service of an evaluation and needs assessment survey to identify potential opportunities for health improvement and sport/ physical activity development in the workplace; target 20 workplaces.  Beginners Running: Run leaders will support workplaces to establish beginners running groups and participants will have the opportunity to undertake run leader training; target 25 groups, 250 participants, 20 leaders trained.  Gold Challenge: Workplaces will be encouraged to participate in Olympic/ Paralympic sports and raise funds for charity through the Gold Challenge; target 50 participants.  Workplace Champions: Identify and train advocates to support the development of workplace health, physical activity; target 20 champions. LRS will work with SportPark partners and Loughborough University to maximise the impact and effectively monitor and evaluate the Workplace Challenge. GEM Vending Increase and raise nutritional awareness by providing guidance and information to help people make healthier and better informed choices from vending machines both within the workplace and in the public arena; and monitor uptake. Nutritional Charts – Extend this informational support to at least 30 new environments, seeking approval to display it next to the vendors. These charts give nutritional values on fat/sugar/salt content, calorific value and allergy advice. Using the sales data, we can measure if there are any changes in trends after displaying this nutritional information.

New Products – Source new products and carry out trials to extend the current ‘healthier’ merchandising space from 15% to 25%. Products with a healthier connotation, such as low salt, low fat, low calories etc. will be highlighted/identified with a green dot in the machine.

Sciences)  To run a cross-sectional study to assess the factors which determine maternal weight gain/maintenance in the post-partum period. Within 2 years we intend, subject to funding, to conduct a large-scale study of pregnant women, followed through to 12 months post-partum, to identify the factors (physiological, metabolic, behavioural and psychological) which determine their body weight changes in the post-partum period.

 In addition we commit to offer support to other Platform members including input to evaluation on progress and outcomes and to work in partnership with other members of the Platform on areas of common interest. We are particularly interested in women and children, but this interest does not exclude other population sub-groups.

Derbyshire Help reduce health inequalities across Derbyshire and beyond by promoting Community Physical activity, nutrition and health at every opportunity. In particular by: Health Services  To be innovative and use evidence based practice. To work in partnership with other NHS Trust organisations, third sector and business to improve health and wellbeing by (DCHS) promoting healthy lifestyle choices to patients, staff, carers, families, friends and colleagues.  Staff trained as health champions from each division to enable them to promote healthy choices in their work environment to meet the NHS 2012 challenges  Health Promoting Workforce Project - the aim is to provide this training to 3000 DCHS employees from 2012 - 2013 The plan is to see a cultural change within the organisation ensuring that health and wellbeing is at the heart of everything the organisations does.  Work with catering managers, retailers and vending machine providers to promote more healthy choices to staff and patients during 2012/13 and to develop a traffic light system to inform staff of healthy options in the staff dining rooms and vending machines  Promote a ‘Fit for Work’ scheme during 2011/12 where individuals can learn to manage their musculoskeletal health  Promote and supports ACES and PACES day (All Children Exercise Simultaneously’ & ‘Parents and Children Exercise Simultaneously’) with the plan to extend this to all young people’s settings for 2012. University of Promotion and evaluation of the impact of new sport participation Derby programmes for students of University of Derby. We have just opened a 45 station gym and been awarded three years of funding to increase the sports offered to university students. Within the first year we aim to facilitate increased sports provision at competitive and non competitive level with a greater range of sports on offer, pay and play offers and establishment of non competitive leagues.

As part of this ongoing research we will investigate attitude to exercise, participation rates and barriers to participation. In the second and third year research will be undertake looking at adherence, physiological and psychological changes in undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Wilkinson Change one thing – we will assist staff to improve their health and wellbeing through a range of activities including:  a competition where team members make a personal promise to ‘change one thing’ about how they live which will help to improve their health and wellbeing and we’ll recognise the winners both financially and by promoting their successes.  A programme of activities to support this; examples from our proposals include:  Increase tea money if spent on healthy options (Fruit and brown toast rather than biscuits)  Provide nutritional advice and WW points on canteen foods.  Provide balanced buffet suggestions and review HO buffet menu’s  Look to host weight management support sessions  Hold monthly lunch and learn sessions on health and wellbeing  Complete a survey at the start of the programme and re run periodically to measure, understand and report on the impact

NHS Reduce the year on year increase in Childhood Obesity in Lincolnshire Lincolnshire A new and Innovative programme with a number of strands including: 1. Social marketing approach including Me Sized Plates (child size plate) being distributed to coincide with the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) invitation letter. These are being given to Reception Year children: they are not prescriptive and are designed to be used by the child at home. These will be distributed for the next 6 years and impact assessed through the NCMP data and other interventions at year 6. 2. Free School Meals: information re state supported Free School Meals 3. Free School Meals Pilot: Paying for 150 children in Reception year to receive free school meals (hot meals) for 20 days and tracking additional uptake. 4. NCMP road shows 5. Weight Management Intervention Pilot for 4 to 7 year olds: including flexible sessions: in evenings and weekends 6. Healthy Schools: making obesity a mandatory area for every school to achieve this award. 7. HENRY training for Health Visitors and Nursery Nurses. 8. Research into why women stop or continue to breastfeed (started Sept 2011)

Loughborough Loughborough College Workplace Wellness Programme College A bespoke Workplace Wellness Programme is offered to Platform members (including SME’s), developed by using the colleges experience and expertise within the physical activity and health sector and will support and tackle the individual health challenges each workplaces faces whether small or large. The main objectives will centre on the 3 core areas of; Increasing physical activity, improving nutritional habits, stress management.

As part of this we are offering up to 20 places for Platform member organisations to train ‘Workplace Wellness Champions’ using the Royal Society of Public Health Level 2 Award in Understanding Health Improvement. This will be a course piloting the inclusion of adaptations that focus on the dynamics of work and health with the purpose of equipping organisations with the knowledge, skills and motivation to become autonomous in their own workplace health provision. It will have a particular focus on facilitating behaviour change with regard to increasing physical activity, improving nutrition and managing stress. This will help to provide a sustainable human resource/s within participating workplaces from which interventions can grow.

Joined February 2012 JDRM Dental All patients receiving dental treatment will be offered the opportunity to complete a Care diet diary and offered a rapid follow up meeting to discuss their dietary intake. The Advisor will assess the diet diary and then give feedback working out approximate calorie/fat/salt and sugar intake per case and steps that can be taken to modify diet. This will be followed by a discussion with the patient to assess any initial changes they have taken or put into action and any behaviour change. Further follow up support and advice will be given.

A short questionnaire will be provided at the end of the feedback plan regarding questions related to diet and any changes they have made the impact any lifestyle change.

The network is adopting the proven and updated Soil Association Food for Life Catering E.M. NHS Mark as an East Midlands NHS Food Standard. Sustainable Development This commitment is to work with the Platform to support up to 5 health service Network organisations in the East Midlands to work towards achieving a Bronze, Silver or Gold standard with the Soil Association for commissioning and /or providing sustainable food to patients, staff and visitors.

This will involve; -  Planning and delivering a workshop with the Platform - in conjunction with the Soil Association  initially supporting network members, who are also platform members, to make a commitment to adopting bronze and/or silver and gold standards.  Supporting one organisation to pilot writing the standard into the specification for food services.

Unionlearn To promote the health and wellbeing agenda to Union Learning Reps across the Midlands, offering support for including this as part of informal adult learning in the workplace. Initially through:  Promote the Health and Well-being agenda to Union Learning Reps via our e-news, local forum meetings and promoting SE region Health, work and Wellbeing toolkit.  Produce a regional leaflet aimed at ULRs for inclusion in our autumn Update magazine  Include Health and Wellbeing as a theme for our workplace Celebration of Learning days at the end of October 2012.

Nottinghamshire Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust will work towards adopting the NHS Sustainable Healthcare Food Standard. This includes assessing the soil association standards and sustainable NHS Trust food initiatives and practicalities for this Trust.

A group will be put together to assess where we are now and carry out a gap analysis to identify clear objectives for the future in assessing what is required to implement the standards.

The standards include the following:  Fresh food which is freshly prepared using predominantly unprocessed ingredients that are free from controversial additives and Trans fats.  Sourcing environmentally sustainable and ethical food which meets UK animal welfare standards and to lower carbon emissions and pollution  Championing local food producers  Making healthier eating easier including making it easier for people to choose healthy meals which are nutritiously balanced and good quality. Freshly prepared foods rather than processed food. Ecoworks Nottingham We will set up ‘Local Food in the Workplace’ veg bag scheme in organisations/premises/locations with 25+ employees across Nottingham City this will include offering subsidised boxes to those on a low income. Where 20+ employees sign up, we will also offer healthy seasonal food demonstrations on a quarterly / biannual basis.

Through our new custom built electric milk float we will promote local food / healthy eating across the city, with specific aims of engaging with hard to reach communities. This mobile resource aims to work in partnership with all other sectors but specifically sponsorship and commissioning from the public health sector. As part of this we will introduce a membership card (with discount options for those on low income) and use this membership to monitor £value of produce brought.

We promote healthy eating through a weekly food newsletter (and can share this or create links to platform member’s websites / intranets)

We can share our community engagement experience, new developments and successes e.g. what works well, what doesn’t.

Community WORKFIT Sports Trust We will apply the model we have found so successful with Village Games to the workplace. Our JOG Derbyshire Co-ordinators and Village Games Co-ordinators will liaise directly with an initial 10 pilot companies to identify their physical activity requirements. We will provide sport and exercise professionals to these workplaces, as well as developing volunteers from within. We will engage 800 participants in the pilot and would signpost participants to other ‘healthy workplace’ support interventions such as sustainable travel and smoking cessation support as appropriate. We will also encourage participants to get involved in other local initiatives through Health Hubs and Village Games/JOG Derbyshire groups.

CYCLE DERBYSHIRE The aim of the Cycle Derbyshire project is to increase the number of people who are engaged in community based activity projects; improving community cohesion and social and support networks, physical and mental wellbeing and physical activity levels.

The project will focus on people who are currently sedentary or don't take part in physical activity on a regular basis. We will work with beginner cyclists or 'wobbly returners'. We will establish Cycle Derbyshire groups- friendly, supportive cycling groups, where people can develop their confidence and form a regular fitness habit. We will support them further through bike maintenance sessions, events and leader training. Family rides will encourage people of all ages to cycle together, and will support the Cycle to School/Bike to Work initiatives.

As part of this: Service (EMAS)  Provide managers with information and tools they need to support the Health, Wellbeing and Safety of our employees including through a new training programme  Identify key areas for development in line with the Department of Health Workplace wellbeing charter and improve staff satisfaction, morale and engagement  Encourage and support employees to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle through a range of approaches including through piloting the ‘Lighten-up Programme’  Meet the NHS Constitution commitment to “provide support and opportunities for staff to main their health, wellbeing and safety”

Leicester City Fit for Business - We will support and enable people to use ‘active travel’ by helping Transport businesses and employees to access affordable and sustainable transport and helping Strategy out of work people to access training and affordable and sustainable transport. We will Section create a Legacy – Ensuring that business and community leaders and employment advisors have the knowledge and skills to deliver travel advice to their employees, members and clients. Our target is to reach 75,000 existing employees and 3,000 people seeking employment, and contribute towards getting people more active.
