Dear Sir

Request for Information Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)

I refer to your request Ref No 690 received on 17 June 2010 and acknowledged on 18 June 2010.

In answer to your request made under the Freedom Of Information Act 2000 I can confirm, in accordance with s.1 (1)(a), that the Council does hold the information you have requested and would reply as follows:

o The properties 562 & 548 Southwell Road West are classed as Mansfield with an NG21 postcode. o Sherwood Industries, Redoaks, Ransom Wood and Ratcher Hill (Sand Quarry) are also classed as Mansfield with an NG21 postcode o However, the property Pineview, Ratcher Hill is addressed as Rainworth with an NG21 postcode.

I understand there is no definitive boundary between Rainworth and Mansfield and the majority of addresses in this area are historic and as our records only date back to the early 1990’s we therefore have no records of them actually being addressed.

Postcodes are set by the Royal Mail and not the District Council, and are for delivery location purposes. The first 2 letters of any postcode are to identify the main Royal Mail office to where mail initially goes. The following number/numbers are for the postcode district. This is for the sorting of the mail into areas at the main office. The final numbers (known as The Sector), are to define the neighbourhood within a District and the final letters (known as the unit code) can identify up to approx 15 properties.
