MINUTES DISTRICT SAFETY COMMITTEE June 4, 2012

A. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 3:20pm by Kevin Baker.

B. C. MINUTES Minutes of the April 9, 2012 meeting were reviewed and approved by M. Milton/R.Glazer

D. BUSINESS – Kevin Baker  We have approximately 34% of remaining funds left in our safety budget. SIPE will allow us to carryover 25% which means we need to spend approximately $3,800. Before the end of the fiscal year.  Online Safety Trainings – (20) Certificates were submitted. The following two certificates were drawn as winners for April: Sue Studer – District Office, Account Tech. Lois Harvey – AGHS, Activities Office The following two certificates were drawn as winners for May: Dawn Coon – Paulding, Teacher District Safety Committee Minutes Vickie Pope – Grover Beach, Special Ed.  Caught in the Act – (7) entries were submitted for April & May combined. The committee reviewed the entries and selected the following winners: Ryan Huss – AGHS, Teacher Mike McAustin – AGHS, Teacher Mike and Ryan both worked together to keep a deranged intruder from entering the school campus and safely kept students separated from this person. Mike and Ryan both tried to worked together to detain her until security arrived, taking her keys to keep her from causing an accident in front of 200 students.

Mike McAustin and Ryan Huss put themselves in position to protect our students and staff from possible injury. We are thankful they acted so quickly!

Lourie Amaral - Judkins, Secretary Joey Lundgren, Judkins, Library Tech.

Joey was observed putting a rug over the electrical cords used by H.R. for a presentation during a staff meeting. The cords would have been a tripping hazard as 20 employees entered the room.

Thank you to Joey for her quick thinking!

 The second set of site inspections are due June 30, 2012 and are scheduled to be completed by (4) sub custodian/maintenance staff and salaries will be charged to our Safety Rebate Budget (9993)

E. BUDGET REVIEW – Kevin Baker Kevin reviewed the budget with the committee. No outstanding comments or concerns.

F. STATUS OF NEW AND ONGOING INJURIES – Cyndie Clark was not in attendance. Mike Bruffey informed the committee that although our total number of claims for this year is up slightly over last year, severity of injuries is down. Workers Comps Costs in 2010 – 2011 was $677,962 this year to date costs are $175,662. This means that everyone is paying more attention to their personal safety. That is a significant decrease which could save a job.

G. SAFETY REQUESTS

1. Custodial – (3) Tilt Trucks - $1,000. Judkins and (2) other sites to be determined. Approved

2. Business Office – Desk Chair Mat -Monica Chapman - $62. Approved.

3. Mesa – (4sets) Stanchions & Chains - $982. Table. Cindy Naber will look at her stock in the warehouse. 4. Curriculum – Medium Size Cord Covers for multiple cords. $270. Approved. District Safety Committee Minutes June 4, 2012 Page 3

6. New Tech H.S. – Footrest - Raquel Lujano $50. Approved

7. New Tech H.S. – (2) Motorola Radios – Tabled. Kevin will look into whether this could be funded out of school start up funds.

8. Harloe – Approved.  Footrest -Renee Reyes - $50  Document Holder – Renee Reyes - $50  (2) Desk Chair Mats – Renee/Anna - $150

9. Harloe – Keyboard Tray Holder - $140. Table. Cindy Naber has some in warehouse to provide.

10. Maintenance – Safeworker Knee Pad - $35. Approved

11. Maintenance (6) TV Safety Belts to be used for securing TV’s. - $116. Approved.

12. ITS – Scott Melot – Work station Evaluation – Disc. Funds Purchase.  (2) Computer Monitor Stands  Ergonomic Chair - $400

13. AGHS – Librarians Work Station Evaluation – Disc. Fund Purchase.  (3) Ladders with flip down platforms -- $253  (2) Back Supports for chairs - $55  (2) Anti-Fatigue Standing Mats  (2 pks) Anti-Fatigue sitting/Kneeling Interlocking Mats. $46

H. OPEN FORUM

Meetings will continue to be held on the first Monday of every month in 2012/ 2013 school year. Our first meeting will be scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2012 at 3:15pm in the Fireside Room. Denise will send out a meeting schedule.
