Toddler Newsletter February 2008

February is the month of love and friendship. We will be learning about our friends and sharing. We are having a great semester. Important Dates: February 14-Pink Day February 4-8-Dental Health February 11-15-Love and Friendship February 18-22-Babies February 25-29-Community Helpers

February 4-8 Dental Health The children will paint with toothbrushes. We will have the dental students visit the classroom and talk about dental health and brushing our teeth. “Toothbrush Song” This is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, and brush our teeth. This is the way we brush our teeth so early in the morning. At-Home Activity: Schedule a visit to the dentist with your child. Make a plan to buy new toothbrushes at your next visit to the store.

February 11-15 Love and Friendship The children will practice sharing and learn about feeling like sad or happy. We will read books about hugs and nice touches. We have having a food tasting project with fresh fruit. At-Home Activity: You can take your child to a special place or plan a “date” night that you spend time together. This is also a great time to make cards or gifts to give to family members to show how you feel. February 18-22 Babies We will talk about babies, what they can do, and what we can do for the babies we know. We will look at baby pictures and talk about similarities and differences. Please bring a baby picture of your child to share with the class. At-Home Activity: Read a story about babies. Look through your baby pictures as well as your child’s.

February 25-29 Community Helpers We will learn about police officers, fire fighters, bus drivers, and mail carriers. Some favorite songs we sing are “The Wheels on the Bus” and “Fire Truck”. We will paint with things with wheels; have a car wash in the sensory table, and many other activities that allow us to talk about people’s jobs. At-Home Activity: Visit the local library and check out books about community helpers. This is also a great time to talk about your job and what kinds of things you do.

Parent Reminders: 1. Please bring extra clothes to keep in your child’s cubby. 2. Please make sure your child has snow pants, boots, hats and mittens to play outside. We try to go out when the weather permits. 3. Please put your child’s name on their coats, extra clothes, etc.
