Purpose and scope of the Program SOGIdarity During the time of the German National Socialism tens of thousands of people were injured on the grounds of their sexual orientation and gender identity; several thousand lost their lives. Discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersexual (LGBTI) people have not been overcome until today. The Foundation EVZ – co-funded by Dreilinden gGmbH – therefore supports activities that tackle contemporary discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
We believe that human rights are applicable to all human beings, also to LGBTI people. We also believe that acceptance of diversity and equality within a society can only be achieved through an increase of understanding and solidarity among the different social groups and particularly among the majority and its minorities.
SOGIdarity stands for the cohesion of LGBTI and other actors of the society. The objective of the program is to strenghten alliances of LGBTI organisations with other actors from the civil society or state, which are committed to human rights to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
We support impactful and innovative initiatives to overcome prejudice and strengthen understanding and solidarity. Cooperation can help the partners to develop a deeper understanding of the situation of the respective other target groups and identify the existing needs and requirements for their joint work. As a result the partners can build up a long-term cooperation and so being better equipped to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Who are we looking for? Joined initiatives of minimum 2 cooperation partners - LGBTI organisations/initiatives and other actors, e.g. civil society organisations (human rights organisations), professional initiatives (psychologist, journalists, medical staff, professional unions) and other groups, (religious groups, students, arts institutions), municipal and state executing agencies (municipalities, ombudsperson agencies etc.); Projects that are implemented in Ukraine; The 1st applicant will be the grant recipient and must have a status of a legal entity; Initiatives that are not legal entities can be part of the project as cooperation partners (2nd applicant) and will be funded via the grant recipient.
What are we looking for? Cooperative projects, which show innovative approaches, rooted in the local context with its opportunities and barriers, and aiming on combating discrimination in all their diversity; legal protection, hate crime
page 1 of 6 monitoring, capacity building, awareness rising and sensitizing measures, art and exhibitions, online media projects, and other. Begin of the project not before 1 November 2017 with a possible duration of up to 1,5 years. Funding requests not less than 10.000 Euro and up to 50.0000 Euro per project. We fund personnel and running costs. Running costs are e.g. travel costs, materials for PR work, quality and sustainability assurance (supervision, coaching) as well as administrative expenses. The Foundation expects applicants to make appropriate contributions themselves and encourage to acquire third party funding.

Our funding procedure Projects will be selected in a two-step application procedure: step 1 is the submission of the concept notes; step 2 is the submission of the full application documents; 1. Concept notes can be submitted in English or Russian languages until 02 July 2017. To submit the concept note please use the below attached form. You can submit your concept note by email (as pdf or jpg): [email protected] 2. The concept notes will be evaluated by a jury of external experts. 3. The selected concept notes will be invited to enter step 2 and develop a full application with the support of the foundations staff. The respective organisations will be invited to a preparation workshop in Berlin, in September, 2017. 4. We will decide on funding successively between October and November 2017. The earliest date for commencing the projects is 1 November 2017.
Our criteria for assessing the concept note 1. The project idea convincingly reflects the main objective of the program: to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity within the society. The application justifies convincingly why this project, its subject and its results are needed at the place of implementation. 2. Cooperation: the project builds on a promising partnership in which LGBTI community participates as equal. 3. The target group is clearly defined. 4. Impact and Sustainability: it is clearly described on what criteria your success can be measured and how do you want to use the results after the end of the project. 5. External and internal risks of the project are identified together with ways in which these can be avoided or mitigated. 6. Planning: objectives, planned measures, time schedule and financing are harmonised well. 7. Administrative competence: the applicant offers a reliable and stable executing agency structure and professional and administrative skills.
