1. Welcome Tuni as new website administrator We are proposing that since each month we celebrate a different type of cancer (e.g. March colorectal awareness month) Tuni posts the screening guidelines for each cancer on our BONUS newsletter. This information can be cut and pasted from the following website http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_2_3X_ACS_Cancer_Detection_Gu idelines_36.asp

2. Programs for the year a. Schedule Programs set for the year, Mary Mckrell will do CEU programs. Colette to check with her on this. Leslie Pollart will be back up. b. Genetics Program: Finalize program date (October 6th is tentative), find a sponsor. Look at combining Breast cancer update with Genetics program . Look into Holy Cross or Memorial for room so we will not have to pay for site. Targeting October. Leslie will find out about room at Holy Cross. Carol Brudenell and Marianne Malone will be doing genetics program together and they have suggested we do it in Sept. Board is okay with that as long as it is not on Jewish holidays or any other holiday weekend. Sponsorship for program: 1) Reggie had mentioned in the Jan meeting she might be able to cover the meal cost since it will be the only cost. F/U with Reggie ASAP. If this doesn’t work move to plan B 2) Carol Moon has provided us with an extensive list of Broward Reps. Theresa please let me know and I will fax you the list that way we can start targeting reps about possible sponsorship.

3. Financial report: What is available in account? Currently we have approximately $11,000 in bank, this is not including IDEC’s latest check for $1,000, or raffles, or membership payments. 4. Nurses Week a. South Florida Nursing Book Alisha working on grant for the purchase of the books or any other ideas we may have. Would like to have a gift for members at next meeting. -Article- “What do Nurses Do?” We agreed that $40.00 is a lot of money for a book considering the size of our chapter. By now Theresa should have received a kit from national that has the theme for nurses week and promotional items that we can order for our members. Please let us know if you received it, if not please contact Judy Stein. We thought this could be a nice and inexpensive way of making our nurses feel special. 5. Mentorship weekend: Leslie interested in attending. Theresa to email Judy Stein to find out dates as nothing has been advertised yet. Leslie is still interested in attending but is still waiting since the dates of the program are still not available. When days become available Leslie will know if she can attend. 6. BONUS award for members a. Who will be nominated next month? Two possibilities A) Arlene McMillan Broward General Cancer Center Nurse Manager B) “Pat” Last name not know by us. She works in Broward General 4North as assistant nurse manger. If anyone knows the last name please let us know! Theresa please pick nominee and let me know to make certificate. b. Last month we nominated Lloyd Robinson. Did we give him his award? Julie made certificate and gave it to Alisha. Alisha could not attend meeting we need to ask her. 7. Increasing Membership -Any ideas? a. Directors At Large: Theresa will pass membership applications at offices. Send letters to National members who don’t belong to local chapter. Carol will follow up. Directors at Large to visit hospitals to obtain membership. 1. Open genetics program to non-member nurses and raffle membership to national to non-members. We can also have a booth where a few of us sit down with application and try to recruit. 2. At each meeting starting next month we have copies of our annual agenda. *Please see last page for an example of what we can distribute. 3. Designate a dollar amount to sponsor national memberships. We are recommending $500.00 4. At our next meeting encourage guest to car pool 5. We thought it would be a nice idea for each board member to adopt a month and educate the rest of us on screening awareness for that month. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_1_Cancer_Calendar.asp 6. Relay for Life in Pembroke Pines : Terri, Theresa and Colette attended a. Any other upcoming events? A) Board is suggesting BONUS donates funds to Memorial Hospital and Holy Cross for “Celebration of Life”. Proposing $100.00/site. Celebration for Life is first Sunday in June. B) Brides Against Breast Cancer

7. Check out Tower Club as possible Christmas party location.

The location is perfect and the room is great but they do not accept AMEX. Since Genentech is sponsoring the program we will let them work that out with restaurant. IF the issue cannot be resolved we are recommending other restaurants 1. Sage Restaurant Ft. Lauderdale 2. French Quarter Las Olas 3. Cypress Ballroom Sheridan Hotel and griffin 4. Tropical Acres 5. Restaurant at Executive Airport (we didn’t remember name!) 6. Broward Performing Arts Center

Extra business: 1. Linda Neff still has about 5 gifts that were never picked up from Tri-County. This includes bathrobes and other goodies. We will raffle this on the next meeting. 2. Restaurants for future board meetings Runyons Coral Springs

Once again we want to thank Leslie for putting the program together, for those of you who could not attend, we missed you and you missed a great meeting.

See you all soon. Julie & Alisha
