BACKGROUND

This role heads up the Relationship Fundraising team which sits within Oxfam New Zealand’s (ONZ) Engagement Directorate. The Engagement Directorate’s role is to engage, educate and publicise the work of Oxfam within New Zealand and raise vital public funds for our advocacy, humanitarian and development work.

The Relationships Fundraising team has the primary role of interfacing with high value audiences with a degree of specialisation existing by different target audience for each post holders. Members of the team may also be part of multiple cross-functional project teams. Therefore variable time may be spent on tasks and activities contained in the job description throughout the year and, over time, there may be changes to roles and responsibilities as resources are moved flexibly within the directorate to meet new priorities and/ or to achieve greater efficiencies. This may result in changes to the ‘Primary responsibilities’ section of this job description, which will be made in discussion with individual post holders and the agreement of the Engagement Director.

Last updated: March 2016 Relationships Fundraising Manager The Fundraising Relationships Manager/team has functional responsibilities for developing and delivering strategies for recruiting, retaining and leveraging support and income from the following audience streams: o High level Regular Givers o Major Donors o Corporate Partnerships o Corporate Sponsorship o Bequest Giving o In memory and Tribute giving o Trust and Grant funding o Supporter engagement and recruitment from the above audiences for all fundraising products, including Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW), Oxfam’s Morning Tea (OMT), Oxfam Unwrapped, Auckland Marathon, Oxfam Water Challenge and Oxfam’s Overseas Challenges. Using the following channels: o Pipeline research, planning and delivery o One to one meetings and conversations o Business networking events and forums o Speaker tours, public talks and events o Proposals and pitches to groups, companies and organisations o Relationship building with key individuals, groups and influencers o Leveraging support using Oxfam’s range of fundraising products o Providing bespoke activity or products for target audiences

JOB PURPOSE

Be responsible for maximising the income from the Relationship Fundraising audiences and for ensuring that supporters and partners have an outstanding experience through the provision of knowledgeable, efficient services and effective follow-up.

The post holder has the strategic role of developing, planning and evaluating relationship fundraising with high net worth audiences with the objective of achieving income growth through the expansion and shared opportunity development of Oxfam’s Major Giving, Corporate, In Memory, Bequest and Trusts Fundraising activity.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Major donors  Develop, review and implement the Major Donor strategy to ensure ONZ maximises donations whilst continuing to inspire and engage existing and new supporters. This includes: o Developing the Major Donor supporter journey, o Establishing annual fundraising goals for with the aim of growing future income,

Last updated: March 2016 Relationships Fundraising Manager o Developing and implementing appropriate communication, recruitment and retention strategies for new and existing major donors.  Direct the Key Relationships Coordinator to deliver results and the required communications on the major donor supporter journey.  Hold relationship responsibility with the tier one major donors (Project Sponsors) and identify and develop relationships with new prospective major donors, and existing supporters, filtering tier two donors (You and Oxfam supporters) to the Key Relationships Coordinator to manage.  Maintain and build relationships with key (tier one) major donors and, where appropriate, encourage them to remain supporters of Oxfam once their initial commitments end.  Develop and maintain an overview of ONZ’s major donor products and the collateral materials used. Ensure these are appropriate for recruitment, retention and ongoing stewardship. Analyse the product results against targets and re-assess with the Key Relationships Coordinator as necessary  Promote and monitor the effectiveness of ONZ’s bequest product, collateral materials and acquisition approach, measuring results against fundraising targets set.

Trusts and Foundations  Ensure the maintenance of an appropriate Trusts and Foundations strategy. This includes: o Ensuring the capture and maintenance of relevant information on suitable Trusts and Foundations, o Making applications and ensuring accurate and timely applications and reporting, o Effective liaison with Programmes on any other institutional funding opportunities.

Corporates  Support the development and implementation of a successful Corporate Fundraising Strategy in conjunction with the Corporate Partnerships Manager and Corporate Engagement Specialist. This includes: o Supporting the Corporate Engagement Specialist and Corporate Partnerships Manager to secure both financial and services/gift in kind sponsorship, o Identifying major donors with scope for corporate giving and vice versa, o Providing guidance on key corporates with regards to approach and oversight of the due diligence process, o Monitoring the success of the Corporate Fundraising strategy and reviewing and revising plans in line with the wider Relationship Fundraising strategy.

Systems and processes  Ensure there are appropriate systems and processes across teams for data selection, screening, prospecting, fulfilment and quality control for all products that are promoted through channels managed by the Relationships Fundraising team.

Last updated: March 2016 Relationships Fundraising Manager  Lead the implementation of an effective supporter journey strategy that ensures ONZ successfully engages and inspires both potential and existing Relationship Fundraising audiences to engage deeper for longer. This includes: o Mentoring or coaching team members and accompanying them on key visits or to meetings with key stakeholders/supporters as appropriate, o Ensuring agreed turnaround times and services levels for communications to supporters through all channels are met, o Developing and adapting key messages for front line communications, ensuring branding and customer care standards are met, o Monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of supporter engagement and outreach activities against stated plans and objectives, o Ensuring monitoring, analysis and evaluation of trends in supporter feedback are undertaken and issues are resolved or escalated to relevant teams where appropriate.

 Support the development and maintenance of effective processes for gathering programming and campaigns information that can be used for communications & marketing purposes by the Engagement Directorate.

Project management  Lead cross functional project teams that are formed to deliver products that are managed through the Relationships Fundraising team. This includes: o Preparing, monitoring and reporting against income and expenditure budgets for project/products managed through the Relationships Fundraising team, finding cost efficiencies wherever possible, o Reviewing team/ project plans and progress against agreed objectives/targets, including relevant strategic (Change Goal) objectives, o Working with the Communications and Media Manager/team, and Marketing and Fundraising Manager as necessary, to develop appropriate communications strategies and plans for products managed by the Relationships Fundraising team.

 Ensure the effective financial management of fundraising activities, including income and expenditure budgeting, variance analysis, and reporting.

Team management Provide effective team management, support and direction to members of the Relationships Fundraising team. This includes: o Recruiting and selecting, inducting, setting and reviewing work objectives for new team members, o Providing appropriate support, guidance and feedback to project and team members and holding regular supervision meetings and conducting annual performance reviews for direct reports,

 Adhere to and ensure understanding and compliance of Oxfam’s human resources policies and procedures within the marketing function.

Cross team working  Contribute to the ONZ’s transformation agenda through the Oxfam 2.0 Lab, based on jointly identified opportunities.

 Update and implement the relevant sections of the emergency response strategy and procedures. Lead on all Major Supporter and Corporate partnership engagement in the event of an Emergency Response.

 Keep abreast of developments in Oxfam’s international programming work and informed about Oxfam’s programming priorities in the Pacific in order to effectively represent Oxfam and act as an informed staff member.

 Be proactive in engaging with and maintaining effective cross team communications and working relationships within the Engagement Directorate and with other Directorates.

General  Represent ONZ within relevant networks, including NGO forums, Oxfam International groups, and at relevant forums within the not for profit and wider sector.

 Undertake any other duties or projects that may be delegated by the Engagement and Marketing Director that are keeping with the scope of the role.

COMPETENCIES

Qualifications, experience and knowledge  A track record of success in Major Giving  Proven experience of designing and managing ‘sales pipeline’ processes and systems that support fundraising activities  Strong knowledge of fundraising principles and best practice, including corporate, Bequest and trust fundraising, and an understanding of how fundraising disciplines can interlink to strengthen the supporter journey  Experience of strategy development and implementation  Experience of product management and knowledge or experience of developing associated collateral materials  Experience of managing and developing staff  Good experience of using IT systems particularly Microsoft Office applications and relational databases  Experience of data analysis and reporting

HOURS/ TIME OFF IN LIEU

The post holder may be required to work additional hours, including weekend working, from time to time for which appropriate time off in lieu (TOIL) will be awarded in line with the organisation’s TOIL policy.

Some travel within New Zealand and overseas is required.
