Symptoms and effects: Corrosive to eyes, skin and upper respiratory tract. Causes injury to the cornea and eyelids. Vapours cause coughing/breathing difficulties.
General:: In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Move to fresh air, rest, half upright position, loosen clothing. Seek medical advice after significant exposure.
Skin: Remove all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash off with plenty of soap and water. Always seek medical advice. Launder clothes before reuse. 1 Eye: Rinse immediately and as long as possible with plenty of water. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Always seek medical advice.
Ingestion: Only when conscious, rinse mouth, give plenty of water to drink (approx. 500ml). Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice.
Notes to Physician: Symptomatic treatment is advised.
5. Fire-Fighting Measures
Suitable extinguishing media: All media.
Special exposure hazards:: If involved in a fire, it will support combustion.
Hazardous decomposition/ combustion products: In contact with heavy metals, their compounds and their alloys Sodium Hypochlorite decomposes under the development of oxygen.
Protective equipment:: If high concentration of vapours cannot be avoided, use adequate additional protection precautions.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal precautions: For personal protection see Section 8.
Environmental precautions: Do not empty into drains.
Methods for cleaning up: Collect as much as possible in a clean container for (preferable) reuse or disposal. Rinse remnant with plenty of water.
