3. Hazards Identification

 Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.  Causes burns.

4. First Aid Measures

Symptoms and effects: Corrosive to eyes, skin and upper respiratory tract. Causes injury to the cornea and eyelids. Vapours cause coughing/breathing difficulties.

General:: In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Move to fresh air, rest, half upright position, loosen clothing. Seek medical advice after significant exposure.

Skin: Remove all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash off with plenty of soap and water. Always seek medical advice. Launder clothes before reuse. 1 Eye: Rinse immediately and as long as possible with plenty of water. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Always seek medical advice.

Ingestion: Only when conscious, rinse mouth, give plenty of water to drink (approx. 500ml). Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice.

Notes to Physician: Symptomatic treatment is advised.

5. Fire-Fighting Measures

Suitable extinguishing media: All media.

Special exposure hazards:: If involved in a fire, it will support combustion.

Hazardous decomposition/ combustion products: In contact with heavy metals, their compounds and their alloys Sodium Hypochlorite decomposes under the development of oxygen.

Protective equipment:: If high concentration of vapours cannot be avoided, use adequate additional protection precautions.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Environmental precautions: Do not empty into drains.

Methods for cleaning up: Collect as much as possible in a clean container for (preferable) reuse or disposal. Rinse remnant with plenty of water.

Storage requirements: Do not store together with acids, reducing agents and flammable substances. Store in a dry, well ventilated place, away from sources of heat and direct sunlight.
