Community Groups Urged to Apply for Grants

Community and volunteer groups across Merseyside are being urged to apply for grants to help fund the vital work they do. Two Trusts set up to help charitable organisations in Liverpool City Region have seen a fall in the number of applications since the recession began in 2008.

The Trusts, administered by Brown Turner Ross Solicitors have struggled in recent years to donate the levels of funding each was set up to give. In total, £25,000 is available in grants which charities and community groups may apply for.

Since the beginning of the economic down turn in 2008, many Trusts and charitable funds have seen a reduction in their income due to record low interest rates. However, Trusts which were set up to help charitable organisations in the City Region have also witnessed a disproportionate fall in applications for grants according to Brown Turner Ross’s Lyndsey McHale.

Lyndsey McHale, Partner at Brown Turner Ross Solicitors said:

“Volunteer and community groups across the City Region do fantastic work improving the lives, wellbeing and environment of their local communities. With the Big Society still hot on the agenda, there are funds available to help continue the work charities do which are not being applied for.

“ Given the funding cuts many organisations have received recently, we strongly urge any charitable or community organisation in Liverpool to fully enquire about the kinds of grants available to them, as there is money available which is not being applied for.”

The three Trusts include The Sidney Littler Charitable Trust and the Elsie Tolbert Bridge Charitable Trust all of which have grants available for charities and community organisations in Liverpool. With the exception of the Sidney Littler Trust which reserves it’s donations for

1 organisations for medical research, the money donated to charities and volunteer groups can be used for any charitable actions which will benefit the people of Liverpool City Region.
