Enfield Grammar Vs Fortismere

Enfield Grammar vs Fortismere

It was a fresh Saturday morning and Fortismere School were travelling down to Enfield Grammar school and were going to make an attempt to put an end to Enfield Grammar’s impressive unbeaten run.

Enfield Grammar went into the game with high spirits and looked forward to defending their unbeaten run. Mr Chrysanthou was without players Spencer Cleland, George Wallis and Antonio Paone Micheal. However, there was a new addition to the team consisting of the very talented left winger, Aidan Siani coming back from a disruptive injury. Mr Chrysanthou decided to start off with the following team:

Matthew Egelton(GK)

Tom Rottier(RB)

Gabby Adelowo was alongside Hakeem Doyley at CB

Lewis Crouch(LB)

In central midfield was the very consistent pair Matthew Smart and Corey Kenny

On the right was Kenan Gokimen and making his debut on the left was Aidan Siani

Upfront was the very impressive and reliable partnership of James Cameron and an in form Napier Brown

Adam Spyrou 10M That left tom sherry, Glenn Middelton, Gareth Garnsworthy and Adam Spyrou on the bench.

Mr Chrysanthou blew his whistle and the game commenced. It started off a very even game and there wasn’t much in it. Grammar saw more of the ball but couldn’t make the breakthrough. Corey Kenny came closest by rattling the bar from the edge of the box. Lewis was then replaced by Glenn and not long after, another tactical substitution was made allowing Gareth to go on, on the right and for Kenan to have a breather. As the first half went on grammar started to take control of the game with a couple of important saves being made by the opposition’s goalie. Then eventually the pressure paid off. The pace of Aidan down the wing allowed him to shrug off his defender and get a cross in. Although the cross took a slight deflection it made its way to James at the front post, he then flicked the ball into Napier and he made a 180 degree turn allowing him to get his shot away and he powered it past the goalie from close range. 1-0 grammar. Grammar looked determined not to concede and went into the interval 1-0 up.

At half time the boys were able to catch their breath and have some water. It was also a chance for sir to have a chat with the team about what they were doing well and what they could improve on. He made 2 substitutes at the start of the second half which saw Tom Sherry replace Tom Rottier at right back and Adam replace Aidan at left midfield. Grammar got the second half underway and immediately looked dangerous on the ball. Only a couple of minutes into the second half and Hakeem made a great cross field pass into the feet of Adam. His first touch was good and enabled him to get away from his marker. He then dribbled a few yards with it and laid it into the feet

Adam Spyrou 10M of Napier. Napier held the ball up well allowing Adam to make the run into the space at the heart of the defence. Napier cleverly back-healed it into the path of Adam. Adam then drove into the space and looked to let fly but instead played an intricate pass into James and as expected he kept his cool and slotted it in the bottom left hand corner. Grammar looked very relaxed and controlled on the ball and eventually got a third from a good ‘1,2’ bit of link up play between Matthew and Adam which allowed Adam to beat his man, get a cross into the danger area and find Napier who took one touch to control it and another to drive it into the goal. The defence looked strong until a ball came into the box and we couldn’t get it clear. Gabby made a valiant effort to stop it but was unfortunate that his tackle gave the fortismere player a gift which he took. This meant the score stood at 3-1. However, Grammar weren’t finished yet though and carried on the hard work and had the majority of possession. Kenan was then bought onto the pitch and James dropped into centre midfield giving Corey a rest. Kenan made an immediate impact getting on the end of Napiers cross and finishing well.

Napier was then awarded his 3rd by a long throw into the box from Glenn into Adam who set it first time into the Napier who showed some great determination and skill to beat three men and have the confidence to chip it over the keeper. 5-1 up and we were cruising and full of confidence. We started playing some great attacking football from the midfield and the strikers and we were eventually awarded with our sixth and final goal and it was scored by Tom Rottier with some great build up play between Tom Sherry, Gareth, Adam and eventually it was a nicely weighted through ball from Corey Kenny that set Tom up and he took his chance superbly. The game ended 6-1

Adam Spyrou 10M and it was a great team performance. Hopefully we can keep this run of good form going in our upcoming games!
