This year SUNY Oswego will be sending volunteers to at least four different sites to volunteer for Alternative Spring Break. Below you will find brief descriptions of each site. Please rank your preference for sites from 1 to 4, with 1 being your first choice and 4 being your last choice.

There are spots left for the following trip:

_____ Cass Community Social Services in Detroit, Michigan ($150) This agency “works across the City in areas of concentrated poverty providing programs for food, health, housing and jobs.” Volunteers may work on such projects as painting, cleaning, yard work, preparing and/or serving meals, children’s programs, and activities with developmentally disabled adults.

WE PLAN ON ADDING 1-2 MORE SITES IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT THEY ARE NOT SECURED YET. THOSE LOCATIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE REQUIRED INFORMATION SESSIONS.

A $25 nonrefundable deposit (cash or check made out to Auxiliary Services) is due with your application. This $25 will be put towards the above trip fee once you have been assigned to a trip. If you do not get assigned to your first or second choice trip then you will have the option to get your $25 back and not participate.

Group Information Session Dates and Times It is required to attend a group information session to be selected for an Alternative Spring Break trip.

Dates TBA SUNY Oswego Alternative Break Trip Agreement

The purpose of Alternative Break is to provide an ALTERNATIVE to other Winter and Spring Break opportunities. The goal of the program is to offer an opportunity to build community and serve others in a safe, healthy and fun environment.

Please review the following statements. Sign and date if you agree to adhere to each of the statements.

■ I will respect all members on the trip and everyone I meet at the site.

■ I will be an active participant in all aspects of the trip including: Providing service at volunteer site Preparing meals Making decisions as a group Cleaning the space we will be staying in Reflection and discussion sessions Community builders

■ I will not consume drugs or alcohol while participating in the Alternative Break Program.

■ I will attend planning meetings prior to the trip.

■ I will pay required participant fees by the dates they are due.

■ I understand that participant fees for this program are nonrefundable. If I withdraw from this trip for any reason, I am aware that I will not be refunded any money I have contributed.
