Comments: This photo meets the requirements of the assignment by capturing a scene at night. Although this photo did not turn out the way I wanted it to turn out I am still pleased with the result given the circumstances. I know that I tried to increase the shutter speed and lower the aperture to get a better photo. My equipment was a problem as far as capability but at least I knew what I needed to do. I found out that my camera has some scenic settings like night scenes. The only problem with the night scene photo setting is that the photographer can’t manually set the ISO when the camera is set on one of the scenic shots, the camera takes over and defaults to auto.
I chose this building because at night the lights are slanted up in a way that emulates flames from a grill circling the top of the building. It is pretty ingenious use of light unfortunately the flame quality is lost in the photo. I tried to keep in mind that the actual lights of the building would be my highlights and take that into account. I am pleased that the lights are not fuzzy at least. I used a tripod for this shot and I think that helped cut some of the noise.
I found value in this shot again because it relates to my lesson plan for architecture in the town I live. I can use this photo to compare the historical architectural features in the downtown area with the newer architectural features catering to a young customer.

Comments: Carol, You have obviously chosen carefully to pick a setting where the light would reflect with a pleasant white balance of light. The reflection is clear and you have captured a great deal of personality within the photograph. You have a lovely daughter. I think cropping the photo in on the right side would add to the overall effect. The refection is so clear you could tell me there were two girls in the photo and I would buy that.
My first reaction was to suggest turning down the highlights to perhaps tone down the fluorescents in the background toward the ceiling. However, after looking again I think the lights actually add to the concept of the photo since you would see that bright type of light when actually shopping so in reality you have captured that shopping ambiance.
Comments for Kimberly and Rebecca
Kimberly, As usual you have done a great job. I am wondering if the shutter speed had been increased if it would help take the star like effect from the lights. I think the color is especially well captured the blue is very rich and full.
Rebecca, Your night photo is really interesting. I like the red in the background and agree it adds to the mystery. Perhaps angling upward even more by lowering the camera would make the photo even more mysterious.
