Cheer Squad Mom Duties
GPYFA Cheer would like to thank you for your dedication and commitment to your squad. The Squad Mom is a very important part of the team and probably has as much, if not more, responsibilities than the Head Coach. Without the Squad Mom there would be no organization or communication for each team. In order to make the job of Squad Mom as easy as possible, we would like to explain the duties the Squad Mom is responsible to undertake.
(It is advised to find another Mom to help you as needed, it is easier to have too much help than not enough.)
Below is a brief summary of some of your most important duties.
Assisting coaches as needed-The coaches will lean on you very often to help keep the administrative side of the team running smoothly. Many times this includes making forms, passing out forms or flyers, assisting when there is a schedule change, or just answering questions. Collecting money and/or forms as needed-Your assistance will be required for t-shirt, hat, decal orders, pictures, and any fundraising events. Parents will be asked to return the money and order forms to you or Cheer Director. Any forms or money collected by you will be turned into the Cheer Directors. Distribution of materials to parents/guardians-You will be required to assist your coaches in distributing materials to your cheerleader and/or parents/guardians. This may include, but is not limited to, fundraising items, equipment, pictures, and t-shirts. Making game day cheer swap schedules-Once the game schedules are released, you will need to coordinate a schedule to give to your parents for game days, both home and away, for snacks. If you have a large squad, you can ask two different parents to provide the snacks so that there is not such a large expense on one parent Assist coaches during games-Many times you will be needed to help the coaches during the games, both home and away. This includes setting up cheer swaps during half-time, setting up the breakaway banner, or music for a dance. Remember we will visit the other cheerleaders during half-time at a home game and they will visit us at an away game. Your assistance to ensure no parents/guardian, other adults or children are on the field without a visible GPYFA badge or a GPYFA player/coach is appreciated. Goody Bags/Items -Assuring that goody bags/items are made for opposing cheerleaders before game day. Make sure that the Head Coach or Head Cheerleader has them available to them before visiting the opposing team at each game. Communication with Football – Touching base with the Team Mom of the team that you are cheering for that weekend. Inform them of whether or not the cheerleaders will have a banner or making arrangements with the team mom to make a banner that week. To assist the association with ensuring proper behavior-We ask that you assist GPYFA in helping be a “watch dog”. Meaning, a coach or Field Supervisor needs to be immediately notified of any and all player abuse, whether by a coach, parent/guardian or any other person. You will need to assist to ensure there is no inappropriate language or actions used on the playing or practice fields. All members involved with the association were required to understand and sign GPYFA’s Athlete or Parent Code of Conduct policy. Please be sure to keep them notified of any and all situations or conflicts, whether resolved or unresolved.
Please do not be overwhelmed by these duties. Most Squad Mom duties will end as soon as you leave the practice or game fields. Never hesitate to ask for help or assistance from others.
THE SUCCESS OF THE ASSOCIATION DEPENDS GREATELY ON OUR VOLUNTEERS! THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOU DO!
GPY Cheerleaders cheer for our football players, attend community events (parades and charity events), and volunteer on behalf of the football team. All of our cheerleaders and coaches are volunteers.
