Stoughton Lacrosse Club Minutes of November 16, 2011 Board of Directors Meeting Viking Lanes, 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Member Attendees: Colleen Flesher, Sue Schadewald, Gary Tarpinian, Dave Wisersky, Megan Wisersky Guest: Jon Pflaum (Girls coach)

Megan announced that the Varsity coaching job description has been approved by SHS and is posted on their website, WECAN. She has contacted Dave Wollin who is waiting for the information to post on MALA and WLF. It will also be posted on our site.

Megan attended the MALA meeting. The Varsity schedule is now online; the youth and Girls’ schedules are still being worked on.

The Board discussed the 3-referees vs 2-referees proposal that was sent out by Mark Meyer (MALA HS rep). The second part of the proposal was to have the home team pay for all of the referees. Although 3 referees would be great for Varsity and JV games, the cost is very high and adds quite a bit to our already tight budget. Cost of Varsity and JV games would increase from $130 to $165. If possible, we would like to opt out and stay with 2 referees at least for the 2012 season. The Board was unanimous that it would be easier for the home team to pay for the referees at games, rather than split the cost at all games.

Jon informed the Board that the umpires for the Girls games are a problem. He has complained to Dave Wollin with no avail. He’s not sure if more umpires would help or not.

The Girls team has been offered a uniform donation worth up to $4,500. However, the anonymous donor would prefer the Girls games be played in Oregon. What followed was a long discussion on where the games and practices would/should take place. Jon would like to wait for registration to be complete to see what the numbers are and how many players are from Oregon or Stoughton before deciding how many games/practices will be where. Currently there is only one Stoughton girl coming to the open gym sessions. He sees their goal as making the game accessible so parents don’t have to pay as much for their girls to play.

Budget: Gary handed around a draft budget for the 2012 season (see below). He noted that this budget does not include the Bullrush tournament. He estimated that we need a minimum of 36 high school payers to support a JV team. The Board voted on the following motions: 1. Dave motioned for the Varsity/JV player fees to be $300; second by Colleen. Board voted a unanimous yes. 2. Dave motioned for the youth player fees to be $100; second by Sue. Board voted a unanimous yes. 3. Colleen motioned for all players to be responsible for registering with U.S. Lacrosse on their own before they can register with SLAX.; second by Dave. Board voted a unanimous yes.

Fundraising: Dave asked about the Kwik Trip fundraiser and the Board’s thoughts again. Do we want to go forward or move toward a more traditional fundraiser? The biggest concern from members was again the front cost of purchasing $1,000 or more worth of cards at one time. Colleen and Sue asked if it is possible to order cards to have the players sell and receive credit that way. This was tabled to the next meeting. Megan gave her thoughts on SLAX perhaps opening a “gift registry” where people could voluntarily go to the store to purchase what we put on our registry (much the same as wedding registries). All agreed that this might be a good idea to pursue. Megan has learned that the Oregon players who are being grandfathered in to play with Stoughton must petition for a D2 status in the state. Megan has volunteered to take care of this paperwork and send it for these players.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Viking Lanes.
