Hold Information Form: SOAHOLD
The Hold Information Form SOAHOLD is used to place holds within the Banner Student product. The types of holds and the services they affect are stored in a “validation” table called STVHLDD.
Holds can affect the following: ability to register enrollment verification transcripts graduation grades ability to make a payment on their account apply for admission any combination of the above
Holds are viewable on EagleNET for students, faculty and advisors.

Placing Holds
Step by Step
1. At the General Menu, type SOAHOLD into the “Go to” field.
2. Type the Student’s EWUID into the Key Block, or search for the student.
3. Next Block
4. You can select the appropriate Hold Type from a list of options by clicking the down arrow next
to the field. The hold type description will appear next to the Hold Type field.
5. In the Reason field, type a short description or instructions for the student. This information will show on EagleNET, so keep that in mind. a. If you have additional information for staff to be aware of, you must enter that information as a comment on SPACMNT. b. Put a “ZH” (less the quotes) at the end of the Reason field in SOAHOLD. This makes staff aware that additional information exists on SPACMNT. c. In SPACMNT, select the ZH comment type. d. Refer to the date of the hold in the comment text area.

6. Do Not Use the Release Indicator. This indicator only allows the person who placed the hold, to release it. We will be able to restrict the placement and release of holds for specific administrative units in the near future by using Fine Grained Access controls.
7. The User Name of the person placing the hold will be automatically inserted into the blank field next to the Release Indicator at the time the hold information is saved. If this field is populated with CONV, it indicates the hold was migrated from SISPlus during the conversion process.
8. Amount field. We are not using this field at this time.
9. From: Date you are placing the hold. To select the date from a calendar, click on the calendar icon next to the field.
10. To: Defaults to December 31, 2099. To select the date from a calendar, click on the calendar icon next to the field
11. Origination Code. Also referred to as Originator Code on other forms in Banner. This is the administrative unit or department that you represent. You can select the code from a list of
options by clicking the down arrow next to the field. The Origination Code description will show in the blank area next to the code once selected.

13. If you have indicated additional information is available on SPACMNT by putting a “ZH” at the end of the Reason field, remember to “Go To” SPACMNT and add a ZH comment type with your additional information.
14. You’re Done!

Releasing Holds It is important that you only release holds you are authorized to release. Academic departments are authorized to release the following hold types:

Step by Step
1. At the General Menu, type SOAHOLD into the “Go to” field.
2. Type the Student’s EWUID into the Key Block, or search for the student.
3. Next Block.
4. If you wish to make a comment about releasing the hold, do one of two things: a. Check to see if a comment about this hold has already been made. There would be a “ZH” at the end of the Reason field. b. If so, add your comment information to the existing comment in the Comment text area on SPACMNT. c. If not, add “ZH” (minus the quotes) to the end of the reason information listed in the Reason field. (See #8)

5. Enter a “T” (less quotes) into the To: field of the Hold you wish released. This places the current date into the field automatically. This releases the hold effective “today” or immediately.
6. Enter the Origination Code (i.e. academic unit or department) of the area you represent. Click on the down arrow next to the field, to view a list of options.
7. Save
8. If you have indicated additional information is available on SPACMNT by putting a “ZH” at the end of the Reason field, remember to “Go To” SPACMNT and add a ZH comment type with your additional information. Add the date, your name and phone number to the beginning of your comment text. This is especially important when multiple comments are stored in a single Comment Type record.
