1 South Carolina General Assembly 2 119th Session, 2011-2012 3 4 S. 1483 5 6 STATUS INFORMATION 7 8 Senate Resolution 9 Sponsors: Senator Rankin 10 Document Path: l:\s-res\lar\002dank.mrh.lar.docx 11 12 Introduced in the Senate on April 24, 2012 13 Adopted by the Senate on April 24, 2012 14 15 Summary: Jarrod Danka 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 4/24/2012 Senate Introduced and adopted ( Senate Journalpage 8) 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 4/24/2012 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JARROD DANKA IN HIS 12 COURAGEOUS STRUGGLES AGAINST KIDNEY DISEASE, 13 AND TO COMMEND THE EFFORTS OF JARROD DANKA 14 DAY IN MYRTLE BEACH TO RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE 15 HIM WITH A VITAL KIDNEY TRANSPLANT. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate realize the 18 precious capital of our great State is in the lives of our youth, a 19 valuable resource which we hold in stewardship; and 20 21 Whereas, while seventythree thousand people remain on the active 22 waiting list for a kidney transplant at this moment, only 23 twentyseven thousand people received a donated kidney in 2011; 24 and 25 26 Whereas, one elevenyearold South Carolinian, Jarrod Danka, was 27 born with two forms of kidney disease and received a kidney 28 transplant in 2009; and 29 30 Whereas, in 2010, that transplanted kidney began to fail, and now 31 a second transplant will be required to restore his childhood, or he 32 will face a lifetime in hospitals on dialysis; and 33 34 Whereas, a talented “straight A” student, Jarrod has learned at his 35 young age to serve others despite his own struggles, which he does 36 by helping to provide food and clothing for the homeless and by 37 donating his toys to the Ronald McDonald House and Children’s 38 Hospital at the University of North Carolina; and 39 40 Whereas, Jarrod and his twin sister, Devon, are the children of 41 Tracey and Edward Danka of Myrtle Beach; and 42
[1483] 2 1 Whereas, organ transplants are extremely expensive, and the 2 Danka family does not have the resources to cover the expenses 3 that insurance does not pay; and 4 5 Whereas, on Jarrod Danka Day in Myrtle Beach on April 27, 2012, 6 a special fundraiser for the Jarrod Danka Transplant Fund will be 7 held at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and the adjacent Plyler Park, 8 where a silent auction will feature products and services donated 9 by local businesses and local DJs will play beach music and dance 10 favorites for all ages; and 11 12 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate encourage 13 residents and businesses throughout the Grand Strand and across 14 the State to support the efforts of the special fundraiser for Jarrod 15 Danka at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel. Now, therefore, 16 17 Be it resolved by the Senate: 18 19 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 20 recognize and honor Jarrod Danka in his courageous struggles 21 against kidney disease, and commend the efforts of Jarrod Danka 22 Day in Myrtle Beach to raise funds to provide him with a vital 23 kidney transplant. 24 25 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 26 the Danka family. 27 XX 28
