Introduction to the MediaPod Introduction

The Docklands library has a suite of computers for multimedia project work. The MediaPod is located on the second floor of the library. It is an open access cluster of five Apple Mac computers each equipped with two 17" LCD monitors and a DV video recorder to enable digital video capture. The suite is available to all current UEL students and staff. We advise a maximum 4 hours continuous use in order to give fair use buy all our users. Online support is available via any on campus computer at http://mpc.uel.ac.uk

The audio visual facilities within the Library are supported by a team of staff. Please ask at the library counter for assistance or contact Pete Hall directly at [email protected] or on 020 8223 7518.

1. Login

To use the Apple Mac computers in this area you will need a login from the Multimedia Production Centre (MPC).

To apply online:

 From a web browser on a UEL computer type “mpc” into the address line, press enter.

 The MPC home page will load. Select “Apple Mac Support” and then select “Get a Mac login” from the sub-menu.

 Follow on-screen instructions to apply for a MPC Mac username.

2. Printing Unfortunately, at this time, there is no printing from the MediaPod. However, A3 and A4 colour and black & white printing is available in the main Multimedia Production Centre (MPC) computer studios based on the 1st floor of the West Building. The MPC computer studios are available for use outside of booked periods, see timetables displayed outside each studio. A £5 pre-charged print card can be bought through the MPC reception located on the ground floor of the West Building (WB.G.07).

This pod consists of five Apple Mac computers running a mix of creative software. The main software titles are:

Photoshop  The professional standard in desktop digital imaging

Dreamweaver  Build professional websites and applications

Flash  Create and deliver interactive content for desktops and devices

Fireworks  Create, edit, and optimize images for the web

iMovie  Easy to use video editor

iDVD  Easy to use DVD-Video creator

iTunes  Easy to use music organiser

iPhoto  Easy to use photo organiser & editor
