Tanya Fitzgerald Faculty of Education La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia [email protected]

I am currently Professor of Educational Leadership, Management and History at La Trobe University. I have previously held positions at The University of Auckland (NZ), UNITEC Institute of Technology (NZ) and the University of Nottingham (England). I have been awarded research funding from bodies in NZ, Australia, England, and the US as well as research prizes. Notably, I was only the third scholar in the Australasian region to win funding from the Spencer Foundation (US). My research interests are predominantly located in the history of women’s education, and in particular academic women. Recent books include a history of women professors (Peter Lang, 2009), a history of academic women (Cambria Press, 2011, with Jenny Collins), an examination of equity policies in NZ and Australian universities (Post Pressed, 2009, with Jane Wilkinson), and an edited book on the history of educational administration (2009, with Helen Gunter). A forthcoming book investigates the changing nature of academic work (Emerald, 2012). I am an active member of the Australian and New Zealand History of Education Society and am committed to the development of early career researchers as well as cross-national collaborations. Since 2001 I have been editor of History of Education Review (rated ‘A’ by the Australian Research Council), and co-editor of the Journal of Educational Administration and History (with Helen Gunter). For the past five years I have facilitated early career workshops at the annual ANZHES conference that have focused on researcher development as well as writing for publication. In my editorial roles I frequently provide one:one mentoring for less experienced authors.
