Dear Fellow Presbyters

Dear Fellow Presbyters,

The Community Presbyterian Church of Lake City is both excited and honored to be the host for the Fall Meeting of The Presbytery of Western Colorado. These dates are Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27, 2014. We cordially invite each of you to come up the mountain to the beautiful Lake Fork Valley of the San Juans and enjoy times of Worship, fellowship, relaxation, and the beautiful colors of fall (hopefully!). We are located at the corner of Fifth and Gunnison on the main road as you come into Lake City. Parking is easily available both in the Church parking lot, on the street, or across the street in the parking lot of Saint James Episcopal Church, our good neighbor.

We know this will be a wonderful meeting of the Presbytery with Worship, fellowship, food, and relaxation as well as times of prayer and discernment.

There are no major “chain” hotels in Lake City. Since there are no Comfort Inns or Holiday Inns or the like, lodging accommodations will be in either cabins or motel rooms. You will also not find any McDonalds, Burger Kings, or the like. Please make reservations directly with the lodging of your choice by September 5. We would caution that these reservations should be made early since these dates are part of the changing of the fall colors, and there is no way to know how many people will be passing through town to see the Aspens. There are other places to stay in Lake City; however, we have attempted to place you within walking distance or a short drive to the Church for the sake of convenience.

* Alpine Moose Lodge – 1221 North Colorado Highway 149 – 970-944-2415 – $90.00 per night (not within walking distance to Church)

* G&M Cabins – 331 Gunnison Avenue –970 –944-2282 or Toll Free 866-204-6344 – tastefully furnished cabins – $95 for two people – 2 blocks from Church

* North Face Lodge – 1223 Highway 149 North – 970–944 –5200 – $99 without Kitchenette or $104.00 with Kitchenette - (not within walking distance to Church)

* Silver Spur Motel – 301 North Gunnison Avenue – 970-944-2231 or 1-800-499-9701 – [email protected] – $79 per night – 3 blocks from Church

All of the above motels are within walking distance to Lake City restaurants should you so desire.

When you make your accommodation, please mention that you are with “The Presbytery of Western Colorado” because that will be your identification tagline. The policy of the Presbytery is to reimburse you for one half of the room cost. If you have not arranged for a roommate, please let our Stated Clerk, The Rev. Dr. Bill Postler know, and he will arrange for a roommate. Bill may be contacted at 970-247-0488 or [email protected].

It is probable that most of you know your way up here; however, it might be best to use a GPS just to make sure. We are on Colorado Highway 149. If the GPS should direct you over Cinnamon Pass or Engineer Pass, it would be best to ignore that suggestion.

If you are in need of child care, on premises at the Church, please let us know by September 10 so that arrangements can be made.

There will be plenty of food, there are several excellent preparers of food and the menu will make everyone happy! There has never been either a problem or complaint about the food here at The Community Presbyterian Church. Dinner will be provided on Friday night, as well as snacks and coffee on both days.

There is a great deal to do in Lake City. There is hiking, fishing, trips to the Alpine Plateau, Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, the Ute-Ulay Mine, front porch relaxation, shopping, Lake San Cristobal, Slumgullion Pass and much more. Fishing is superb in the Gunnison River so bring your fly-rods as well as mountain bikes, tubes, climbing gear, hiking shoes and whatever else makes you happy. (There are no golf courses, so sorry about that.)

We look forward to seeing you in beautiful Lake City on the dates of September 26 and 27. As one of our members says so well, “Lake City is a very special place.” It is also true for the marketing of Lake City: “Lake City is a peak experience!” Please make your plans to attend the Presbytery of Western Colorado, come one, come all, welcome, and plan to have an excellent time in an excellent place!

Peace, Courage, Blessings, We’re All In This Together,

M. Richard Underwood
