Eligibility: Students will be eligible for summer school classes if a 60-69% is the final grade in the failed class OR a 70 or higher is earned in at least 2 quarters. Course Availability: Classes with insufficient enrollment or teacher unavailability may not be offered. Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition will not be refunded after the first day of class.
Attendance and Punctuality: The only absences allowed during summer school are those that are excused (documentation from doctor or court required). No grades will be issued if a student has unexcused absences. Time missed because of excused absences might be made up at a time determined by the Summer School Coordinator. If a student is absent more then twice than the student will be removed from the program. Students are expected to report to class on time; students who report more than 15 minutes after the start of class will be marked absent. If a student is tardy twice it will count as an absence. All occasions of tardiness must be made up on the day of the tardy arrival.
Transportation: The student and parent are responsible for transportation to and from school. There is no loitering at SKHS before or after conclusion of class.
Textbooks: All textbooks loaned to students must be properly cared for and returned at the conclusion of summer school. Grades will not be issued until all materials have been returned.
Student Conduct: Students will respect the right of all summer school participants to learn. All rules of conduct, dress, etc., that apply during the regular school year will also apply during summer school. A disciplinary referral will be generated for any student who chooses to violate school rules. Parents will be notified of each written infraction. Students will be dismissed from summer school classes following the second written infraction. No grades or refund will be issued. Infractions that could lead to a loss of credit and being dismissed could include, but are not limited to, non-participation in class, plagiarism, inappropriate forum posts, violating SKHS Internet Use Agreement, cheating, abusive language, or harassment/bullying.
Grading and Credit: Each student will be issued a weekly progress report. Any weekly report that shows an average less than a 70 will need to be signed by the student and parent and returned the following day. A 70 average is needed to earn credit each class. A final grade will be issued at the conclusion of summer school. A copy of the final grade report will be mailed to the student’s home address. Summer School or Summer Support grades are not included in the calculation of a student’s cumulative grade point average.
