Directions: working with a partner, create a pamphlet on an environmentally caused birth defect you can choose from the following:  Fetal Alcohol Syndrome  Smoking  Over the counter drugs  Street drugs (crack, heroin, cocaine, marijuana)  STD’s (Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, Aids)  Poor nutrition (include what nutrients should be increase and what foods avoided)  Radiation and pollution

Directions for what to include in pamphlet: (12 points)

1. Name of environmental substance (ex. Smoking, Aids, etc) (1pt)

2. Catchy Slogan (ex. Danger Ahead…premature death, birth defects, death).

(1pt)

3. Pictures of Babies with birth defect (Minimum of 2) (2 pts)

4. Symptoms (describe) Ex. (4 pts)

5. What the reader can do to help prevent the birth defect (Ex. Stop smoking

NOW because babies don’t thrive in smoke-filled wombs!) (1pt)

6. Statistics (how many babies are born each year with the birth defect?) (1 pt)

7. List places like support group, websites, phone numbers where Moms can get

more information and/or help to prevent your birth defect. (2 pts)
