PHS Girls Basketball Open Gym Routine

Drill #1 – One Hand Shooting Drill A. 15 makes total. 5 from the side, 5 from the front, 5 from the side. B. Shoot 2 steps from under the basket. C. Concentrate on everything going straight to the basket. Drill #2 – Step Back Jump Shots A. Start in front of the rim. B. If you make the shot, step back. C. Continue stepping back on each make until you miss 2 in a row. D. How far out can you get and still shoot with good form. E. The farther out you get, the more upward force you need with your legs.

Drill #3 – Dribble Commando (Baseline to FT line) A. Perform 10 trips for each skill. FT line and back is two trips. B. Shoot 4 free throws in between each set. Finish with 4 free throws at the end. 1. One ball. Cross over in the middle, reverse pivot to turn around. 2. One ball. Between the legs in middle, reverse pivot to turn around. 3. One ball. Attack the middle, retreat dribble for two. Cross over and go. Reverse pivot to turn around. 4. Two balls. Cross over in the middle. Turn any way you choose. 5. Two balls. Between the legs in the middle. Turn any way you choose.  Be sure you go between the legs with the other hand on the way back. Drill #4 – Rim Attack A. 5 spots on the floor. Corners, Wings, Top. B. Spin the ball to yourself or have a partner pass to you. C. From every spot, you will shot fake and attack the rim. D. Attack right 3-5 times and left 3-5 times from each spot. E. Change the way you finish. One foot, two feet, other side of the rim, Hips across.

Shoot 10 Free Throws Drill #5 – Two Dribble Pull-Ups A. Work from the same five spots. B. Spin the ball to yourself or have a partner pass to you. C. Perform a shot fake and attack with two dribbles and pull-up. D. Attack right 3-5 times and left 3-5 times from each spot.

Shoot 10 Free Throws Drill #6 – Spot Up 3’s A. Spin the ball to yourself or have a partner pass to you. B. Make ten threes from all five spots.

Shoot 10 Free Throws Drill #7 Post Moves A. Mikins – Make 20 B. Drop Steps – Make 10 turning middle and 10 turning baseline, - Drop steps to the middle and a power hook C. Turn and Shoot – Make 10 turning middle and 10 turning baseline, both sides. D. Up and Under – Make 10 turning middle and 10 turning baseline, both sides E. Post Slides - Spin the ball to the short corner, face up and shoot - Spin the ball to the elbow, face up and shoot - Make five going the short corner and five to the elbow. Both sides
