1.4 SUBMITTALS

4.A. General: Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements. 32 31 00-1 4.B. Product Data: Submit product data showing materials proposed for use. Submit sufficient information to determine compliance with the Drawings and Specifications.

4.C. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings for each product and accessory required. Include information not fully detailed in manufacturer's standard product data.

4.D. Samples: 4.D.1. Submit samples for initial color selection. Submit samples of each specified finish. Submit samples in form of manufacturer's color charts showing full range of colors and finishes available. Where finishes involve normal color variations, include samples showing the full, range of variations expected. 4.D.2. Submit samples for verification purposes. Additional samples may be required to show fabrication techniques and workmanship. Samples shall be submitted prior to installation.

4.E. Closeout Submittals: Submit the following: 4.E.1. Maintenance and operation data, including methods for maintaining installed products, and precautions against cleaning materials and methods detrimental to finishes and performance. 4.E.2. Warranty documents specified herein.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

5.A. Qualifications: 5.A.1. Manufacturer Qualifications: Manufacturer shall be a firm engaged in the manufacture of ornamental metal fences and gates of types and sizes required, and whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for a minimum of five years. 5.A.2. Installer Qualifications: Installer shall be a firm that shall have a minimum of two years of successful installation experience with projects utilizing ornamental metal fences and gates similar in type and scope to that required for this Project.

5.B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with applicable requirements of the laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations of Federal, State, and local authorities having jurisdiction. Obtain necessary approvals from such authorities. 5.B.1. Welding Standards: Comply with applicable provisions of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2. Certify that each welder has satisfactorily passed AWS qualification tests for welding processes involved and, if pertinent, has undergone recertification.

5.C. Mock-Ups: Prior to installation of the work, fabricate and erect mock-ups for each type of finish and application required to verify selections made under sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects as well as qualities of materials and execution. Build mock-ups to comply with the following requirements, using materials indicated for final unit of work. Locate mock-ups on site in location and of size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by the Architect. Demonstrate the proposed range of aesthetic effects and workmanship to be expected in the completed work. Obtain the Architect's acceptance of mock-ups before start of final unit of work. Retain and maintain mock-ups during construction in undisturbed condition as a standard for judging completed unit of work. 5.C.1. 32 31 00-2 When directed, demolish and remove mock-ups from the Project site. 5.C.2. Accepted mock-ups in undisturbed condition at time of Substantial Completion may become part of completed unit of work.

5.D. Pre-Installation Conference: Conduct pre-installation conference in accordance with Section 01 20 00 - Price and Payment Procedures.

5.E. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain ornamental metal fences and gates from a single source with resources to produce products of consistent quality in appearance and physical properties without delaying the work.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

6.A. Deliver materials to the Project site in supplier's or manufacturer's original wrappings and containers, labeled with supplier's or manufacturer's name, material or product brand name, and lot number, if any.

6.B. Store materials in their original, undamaged packages and containers, inside a well-ventilated area protected from weather, moisture, soiling, extreme temperatures, and humidity.

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS

7.A. Field Measurements: Take field measurements prior to fabrication of the work and preparation of shop drawings, to ensure proper fitting of the work. Show recorded measurements on final shop drawings. Notify the Owner and the Architect, in writing, of any dimensions found which are not within specified dimensions and tolerances in the Contract Documents, prior to proceeding with the fabrication. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delaying the work.

1.8 WARRANTY

8.A. General: See Section 01 77 16 - Final Closeout Review.

8.B. Special Finish Warranty: Submit a written warranty, signed by manufacturer, covering failure of the factory-applied exterior finish within the specified warranty period and agreeing to repair finish or replace work that shows evidence of finish deterioration. Deterioration of finish includes cracking, checking, or peeling. 8.B.1. Warranty Period: Lifetime.

2.A. Aluminum Extrusions: 6063-T5 alloy in accordance with ASTM B 221/B 221M.

2.B. Fasteners: Type 302 stainless steel, self-drilling head screws. Screws shall be painted to match the finish of the fence.

2.C. Accessories: Aluminum castings shall be used for post caps, wall brackets, scrolls, finials, and other miscellaneous hardware. Hinges and latches shall be fabricated from aluminum extrusions with stainless steel springs.

2.4 GATES

4.A. Swing Gates: Match style and grade of fencing system. Provide a punch-thru design with welded corner gussets on heavy-walled aluminum gate frame. 4.A.1. Gate Style: Custom as indicated on the Drawings. 4.A.2. Gate Style: As selected by the Architect from manufacturer's standards.

4.B. Cantilevered Gates: Provide cantilevered gates as indicated on the Drawings. Gates shall have standard four-wheel truck rollers, factory-lubricated sealed bearings, and lower roller guides to eliminate lateral movement. Provide heavy-walled all-welded aluminum construction with one-piece overhead truck and frame, and stainless steel aircraft cable bracing. 4.B.1. Product: "Specurity Cantilever Gates," as manufactured by SPECRAIL.

2.5 GARDEN ARBORS

5.A. Garden Arbors: Provide all-aluminum arbor with stainless steel fasteners. Provide pre-welded side panels. The six arched spokes shall be fastened and secured with non-corrosive stainless steel self-drilling Tek screws. Arbor shall be 96 inches (2438 mm) high by 47 inches (1194 mm) wide by 38 inches (965 mm) deep. 5.A.1. Product: "Manchester II Aluminum Arbor," as manufactured by SPECRAIL. 5.A.2. 2.6 DECK AND PORCH RAILINGS

6.A. Deck and Porch Railings: Provide aluminum deck/porch railing system as indicated on the Drawings. System shall include 8 inch (203 mm) top rail, 8 inch (203 mm) bottom rail, balusters, screws, connectors, etc. Railings shall come in standard 8 foot (2438 mm) wide sections, with optional 10 foot (3048 mm) wide sections. 6.A.1. Product: "Avon Deck/Porch Railings," as manufactured by SPECRAIL. 6.A.2. Height: 36 inches (914 mm). 6.A.3. Height: 42 inches (1067 mm). 6.A.4. Top Cap: Bread loaf 2-1/2 inch (64 mm) top cap. 6.A.5. Top Cap: 1-5/8 inch (41 mm) U-channel top cap. 6.A.6. Color: Custom color to match the Architect's sample. 6.A.7. Color: As selected by the Architect from manufacturer's standard colors.

2.7 FABRICATI0N

7.A. Stringers: Horizontal rails shall be punched to allow pickets to pass through the top of the rail. The number of stringers shall vary with the style, height, and strength of the system as determined by the manufacturer.

7.B. Pickets: Pickets shall be fastened to the stringers mechanically with stainless steel Tek screws on one side of the stringer only.

7.C. Posts: Posts shall be pre-punched to allow the stringers to slide in and be attached with stainless steel Tek screws. Cast aluminum post caps shall be affixed to the post.

7.D. Gates: Gates shall be fabricated using the same components as for the complete fencing system. Walk gates shall have adjustable self-closing hinges and shall be self-latching.

2.8 FlNlSHES

8.A. Finish: Coated with an environmentally-approved, premium, high-solids acrylic coating which shall exceed AAMA 2603. Application shall be by electrostatic spray. Curing shall be at 375 degrees F (191 degrees C) to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C). 8.A.1. Product: "Polycolor," as manufactured by SPECRAIL. 8.A.2. Color: Custom color to match the Architect's sample. 8.A.3. Color: As selected by the Architect from manufacturer's standard colors.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 32 31 00-9 EXAMINATION

1.A. Verification of Conditions: Examine areas and conditions under which the work is to be installed, and notify the Contractor in writing, with a copy to the Owner and the Architect, of any conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 1.A.1. Beginning of the work shall indicate acceptance of the areas and conditions as satisfactory by the Installer.

3.2 PREPARATION

2.A. Prepare the grade and remove surface irregularities, if any, which may cause interference with the installation of the fence.

3.3 INSTALLATION

3.A. Installation shall be in accordance with reviewed product data, final shop drawings, manufacturers written recommendations, and as indicated on the Drawings.

3.B. Set posts at 6 feet (1829 mm) on center maximum, set gate posts for gate openings specified or as indicated on the Drawings.

3.C. Insert stringer end into pre-punched posts and fasten with Tek screws.

3.D. Center and align posts, place concrete around posts and vibrate or tamp for consolidation. Recheck vertical and top alignment of posts, and make necessary corrections.

3.E. Install gates plumb, level, and secure for full opening without interference. For double gates, install drop rod. Adjust hardware for smooth operation.

3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

4.A. Touch-up, repair, or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

4.B. Clean the work according to manufacturer's written instructions. The Contractor shall clean the job site of excess materials. Post hole excavations shall be scattered uniformly away from the posts. Clean fence with mild household detergent and rinse well with clean water. Mortar shall be removed from exposed posts using a 10 percent solution of muriatic acid followed immediately by several rinses with clean water.

3.5 PROTECTION

5.A. Provide final protection and maintain conditions in a manner acceptable to the Installer, that shall ensure that the work shall be without damage at time of Substantial Completion.
