Involvement in Extension Programs and Field Projects: Water Quality Education:  I plan, coordinate and conduct classes for the Small Ranch Water Quality Program, which provides education in best management practices (BMPs) for water  I provide educational events and demonstrations about noxious weeds in riparian areas and wetlands, including the Weed Warrior program

Nevada State 4-H Camp Director of Operations:  I am responsible for administering the 33-acre 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe, including reservations, contracts, budget, staff, and facility upkeep

Grant Funded Projects:  “Assessment of the Sources and Forms of Mercury in Steamboat Creek and the Potential Effects of Stream Restoration on Mercury Bioavailability” – a one year research project with Dr. Mae Gustin funded by U.S.D.A. Water Quality Funds  “Washoe Valley Nonpoint Source Education Program” – a two year addition to the Small Ranch Program that will study the impacts of grazing best management practices on soil, forage and water quality using test plots at the Valley Road Field Station

Research and Teaching Interests: My teaching interests include application of best management practices for nonpoint source pollution control; mapping, identification, and management of noxious weeds of riparian areas; stream and watershed restoration; and environmental education of youth. As an area specialist, I am responsible for water quality education in Washoe, Storey, and Douglas Counties and Carson City.

Education and Experience: Ph.D., Hydrologic Sciences, University of Nevada, Reno, 1994 M.S., Hydrologic Sciences, University of Nevada, Reno, 1990 B.S., Biology, University of Nevada, Reno, 1981 A.S., Animal Health Technology, L.A. Pierce College, 1976 Prior to joining Cooperative Extension, I was a laboratory research assistant in Environmental and Resource Sciences under Dr. Glenn Miller. I was responsible for conducting research on the fate and transport of pesticides in the soil environment. This involved field research and analysis by GC and HPLC, as well as radiolabeled mass balance studies.
