John von Rhein of the Chicago Tribune writes, “anything sung by soprano Tony Arnold is worth hearing.” Hailed by the New York Times as “a bold and powerful interpreter,” she has gained international acclaim for sparkling and insightful performances of the most daunting contemporary scores. In 2001, Ms. Arnold became the only vocalist ever to be awarded first prize in the Gaudeamus International Interpreters Competition. Later that year, she claimed first prize in the Louise D. McMahon International Music Competition. She has received critical acclaim for her performances with the International Contemporary Ensemble, Chicago Symphony Orchestra MusicNOW, L.A. Philharmonic New Music Group, New York New Music Ensemble, eighth blackbird, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and many others. International festival appearances include Darmstadt (Germany), Cervantino (Mexico), Luzern (Switzerland), Tongyeong (Korea), and SoundSCAPE (Italy), where she performs and teaches each summer. Since 2003 Ms. Arnold has served on the faculty of the University at Buffalo. In 2009 she was the Howard Hanson Visiting Professor of American Music at the Eastman School. Her numerous recordings include chamber songs by Webern and Berio’s Sequenza III on Naxos, and Kurtag’s Kafka Fragments and a 2006 Grammy Nominated performance of Crumb’s Ancient Voices of Children on Bridge Records. Upcoming releases include Xenakis’s Akanthos on Mode Records.

The ever-evolving Aiyun Huang enjoys a musical life as a soloist, chamber musician, conductor, producer, researcher, and teacher. She was the First Prize and the Audience Award winner at the Geneva International Music Competition in 2002. Her past highlights include performances at the Weill Recital Hall, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra’s Green Umbrella Series, LACMA Concert Series, Holland Festival, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Agora Festival in Paris, Banff Arts Festival, 7éme Biennale d’Art Contemporaine de Lyon, Vancouver New Music Festival, CBC Radio, La Jolla Summerfest, Scotia Festival, Centro Nacional Di Las Artes in Mexico City, and National Concert Hall and Theater in Taipei. In 2004, she gave a solo European tour in the cities of Paris, Geneva, Lyon, Budapest, and Milano. In both 2007 and 2008, she was a featured percussionist at the Cool Drummings Festival in Toronto. She is a founding member of the Canadian trio Toca Loca with pianists Gregory Oh and Simon Docking. Her 2009-10 concert appearances include the cities of Milan, Berlin, New York, Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, San Diego, Singapore, and Taipei. Aiyun was born in Kaohsiung, a city in the southern part of Taiwan. She left Taiwan when she was seventeen. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego. Between 2004 and 2006, she was a Faculty Fellow at UCSD. Currently, she is the Chair of the Percussion Area as well as director of the McGill Percussion Ensemble at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is a member of the summer faculty at the SoundSCAPE Festival in Italy.

Thomas Rosenkranz is a pianist, improviser, and educator. In 2003 he was awarded the Classical Fellowship Award from the American Pianists Association and became associated with the U.S. Department of State as an Artistic Ambassador. Since this time he has toured extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Asia, and Africa with appearances at the Shanghai Contemporary Festival (China), Intermedia Festival (Indianapolis), October Musicale (Tunisia), and at such venues as the International House of Tokyo, Poly Theatre of Beijing, the Kennedy Center, as well as alternative venues such as the Knitting Factory and the Cutting Room in New York City. He has performed as soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony, National Orchestra of Beirut, the Northwest Chamber Orchestra (Seattle), and was a featured soloist with the Oberlin Symphony Orchestra’s tour of China. His most recent solo piano tour of China and Inner Mongolia included stops in Dalian, Shenyang, and in Dashiqiao where he presented the first public piano recital in the history of the city. He is currently a member of the piano faculty at the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University and at the SoundSCAPE Festival in Italy.
